Norman 202
Does anyone have any experience to share regarding using LR on a Surface Pro 2. I am currently using an old 11 inch windows laptop (i3, 4GB ram) and the MS tablet appeals to me primarily for its portability. The functionality I am interested in is 1. Is the stylus any good as an input device when doing edits. 2. As there is no SD card slot how do you get photos from camera to tablet. I suppose one would use an SD card reader. Is there any other way? 3. Can the surface pro 2 run all windows apps? In addition to LR 3.6, I use Adobe DNG Converter and MS SyncToy, Chrome, Calibre (E-book management), itunes. 4. I play around with some esoteric programming languages that require running cmd.com. Is this possible on Windows 8/8.1 I do little editing in LR. Mainly cropping, leveling the horizon, the occasional WB correction. I'd like to do more edits(removing stuff etc) but the trackpad on my laptop is not very good and that is why I am interested in the stylus input of the tablet.I move around a lot and can't really consider an additional watcom type device. keith reeder
You might also want to ask about the Surface Pro's screen colour accuracy and potential for calibration, Norman - I have no insight into that whatsoever, but it matters.
Norman 202
Thanks Keith. I'll bear that in mind although I've not profiled a screen for ages. I use my iphone for judging colour fidelity these days.
philfx
Thats a interesting idea. I have not tried on a Surface2, but I did have a full Windows 8.1OS on a tablet. As long as the catalog and previews are not overly large, I can see this work on a good size WinOS tablet like the Surface. I returned the Dell Venue8Pro(which doesn't use a Wacom touch) due to a number of MFGing issues. I am looking at the Asus flavors (maybe soon Acer, Lenovo and others will have $300-400 versions with power and full OS). There are some now, like the Asus T100.
If you can get the spectro to connect with USB, you can calibrate the screen and have yourself a pretty cool portable Raw editor.
I would likely get a 10" with active stylus with Wacom touch technology to ensure some accuracy, But I can see an 8" work if you don't mind the size for short periods of use. I would avoid the DELL flavors.
