Panny GM1 anyone?

Very nice, Stephen. What do you think of it overall? Like I said in a different post, the more I use it the more I really like this camera. I'm considering the adapter for EF/EF-S lenses plus an EF-S 55-250mm lens (for its minimal weight) until Canon announces the rumored EF-M 55-250mm.

Thanks. Well it's still very early days but i definitely do not have buyer's remorse. I really like the fact that one can use the 'kit' lens without IQ being damaged. It is great to feel that the biggest Camera Maker out there has given you the best they can do, without compromising quality. Overall, AF speed is a small compromise when you get such a competent sensor, processing and above all, wonderful lenses without taking out a mortgage. I'm going to go to Shanghai tomorrow for some more dramatic shots. Will post on the Canon forum though.

Could anybody tell me how does maximum mechanical shutter speed of 1/500 s affect things given that maximum electronic shutter speed is 1/16000 s[0]? The otherwise ludicrous speed[1] will be unusable with an external flash[2] given lack of hot shoe.

[2] Possibly could shoot wide open with a f/0.95 lens at lowest ISO in Sun-full day without (much?) futility.

[[unfortunately I am allergic to gaffer tape]]

Rats! Well, any low-tack tape will do. The point being there are sometimes very simple solutions to engineering oversights. :)

Stephen,
Did you see the EF-M 11-22mm anywhere?

Of the several things no man should ever be without, Gaffa/Duct tape is one of them. It would be very good SP training to tape both your zoom (if applicable) and your FD, then go out and get used to judging distance from the hip. I can do this pretty well with my GX1, but no matter what I do, I almost always fluff a hipshot with my D5100. I didn't see the 11-22, but then I wasn't looking for it when on my trawl. It was only in the last place I noticed the M and realised it was pretty much what I was looking for- the 22mm len sealed the deal. I know it has for several shooters. So I went out for an Oly 17/1.8, which sells for 4.3K and got a 22/2 of the same or probaby even better quality....plus a great std zoom (13 elements in 11 groups)....and a whole new camera for the same price! I'm happy. BUT, I sincerely hope that Canon keep the quality of any further lens releases for this format. I really don't mind paying as much as I need to, to keep the IQ as good as possible. That is one thing Canon did get right. Much of the u4/3 appeal is the fact that most of the lenses for it are very good indeed. They are all modern designs and Oly/Panny know that their target market is prepared to pay a high price for a lens of truly professional quality. I also think that many new owners of the M won't mind paying a fair price for an additional outstanding lens if they got a killer deal to start off the whole ownership experience. A 35mm with a fast aperture of say, 1.4 would get my attention if it was as good as the 22. AND Canon would do well to introduce an adaptor FROM the M mount to the std mount on their DSLRs- I imagine the 22/2 is being looked at enviously by owners of the 650D

Very quick update:- I enabled the continuous AF function a few minutes ago and this seems to have made a significant difference to AF speed. Basically, by the time you have composed the shot, the AF has more than halfway calculated the correct focal distance. I am sure this will make a difference in battery life, so this might be an annoying weak link on the M, considering it's already short battery life. I also noticed today, taking a shot of the M with my GX1, that the shutter response on the GX1 is significantly slower than it is on the M. So, I think when it comes down to it, it might all balance out.
Mods: Sorry for dominating a thread on the u4/3 forum with observations on an APS-C camera.

I have the GM1 which I purchased mainly to get the 12-32 lens...which is now parked on my GX7.
But, you know what, the tiny GM1 is a killer little camera...basically a GX7 without the finder, & articulating screen, plus a few other goodies (no ibis). I'm going to Rome for a week with both cameras and will try to post a report on my website. I'll use the GX7 with the 12-32 and the GM1 with the Oly 45/1.8...which fits perfectly on it and is about the same size as the 12-32 extended.
I'll take my 20/1.7 in case the 12-32 proves to be difficult.
