Hello Nikonistas! A good Wednesday to all. It was a good Tuesday, because it included a trip to a local orchard on a crisp, cool day. Frustratingly, they're going to make us wait another few weeks before we can lay hands on their Staymen apples. But based on what I saw, they're going to have plenty - the trees are just loaded with them this year. Must go cheese shopping! Shot something that will be tasty at some point soon? Share!

00c0Io-542561684.jpg.fa14153f37ea7446c314c944fdf9244e.jpg

My neighbor Alicia has been busy making new piñatas, including this one I spotted outside just a couple of hours ago. I think this one will be Princess Merida. But while I was taking photos the Todd Rungren song "Black Maria" kept running through my head.

These were handheld in one hand with a flashlight in the other. Am I fan of image stabilization? You bet.

Our local Ashland County, Ohio fair is going on this week so I have been walking around every day there checking things out.
First shot is a driver and his trotter warming up for the up coming race. It looks like I caught the horse with all 4 of his feet off the ground at the same time. Of course I planned it that way. Sure I did!!

00c0K3-542563584.jpg.095233df348a3a124ff92349d6529656.jpg

I decided to play with my F6 and some Kodak BW400CN film. I love this stuff, it scans so nice.

Went to a family gathering for a older cousin, a professor of photography, last week. Told him I'd bring the equipment so he could be "in the pictures" for a change. Relied on my 800's resolution and low light capability to wander around making available light images. Here, our host, a dedicated pool-shooter, gives a lesson in applied geometry to the next generation. D800, ISO 1000, 70mm @ f/3.5, 1/80, then cooled off a smidge in LR.

Not really something I'm going to eat, but I have seen the green herons snatch dragonflies out of the air for a light afternoon snack. These are from a recent trip to the park with my son, who also served to catch and hold the first guy steady so I could get the shot.
An Orange Bluet, who was patient enough for me to slither through the damp grass to get close enough to use the 60mm macro.
A mating pair of Rambur's Forktails. They also come in orange.
