jeff_engstrom
I acquired an old Polaroid 600SE camera. It has a light leak that I can't find the source of. I have tried taping up all the seams on the film back and where it attaches to the body. Any ideas what could be causing this leak? Could it be a roller issue?

lex_jenkins
More likely a problem with the film - which is probably expired - or, as you noted, the roller mechanism. Those need occasional cleaning with most Polaroids.

If I'm recalling correctly the only new film for this format is from The Impossible Project, which hasn't been able to duplicate the original Polaroid films so they're tending to emphasize the "artistic flaws" rather than attempt perfection.

Lovely camera, tho'. I'd probably just use it for fun or to amuse folks on the street, and keep my expectations reasonable for output quality.
jeff_engstrom
Hi Lex,
I'm using Fuji FP 100C, and 3000B, and they aren't expired. I'll see if I can clean the rollers...
Thanks,
J
Alan Marcus
Acquire a tiny keychain flashlight. One that will stay on or tape the button to make it remain illuminated. Place the flashlight inside the camera. Retire to a room that can be darkened, best is total darkness. Sit with the camera, in the dark, allow your eyes to dark adapt, maybe 15 minutes or more. Examine the camera from all angles. If this fails, place the flashlight in a different position inside the camera. This technique works.
camera_conjurer
This isn't the result of a light leak, this isn't the result of a problem with the rollers.
Are you squeezing the film after you pull it from the camera? If so don't touch or 'shake' the film while it's developing. Just hold it by the tab until you peel it apart.
Otherwise it's a defect in the film itself or you're using it when the film is too cold.
DON'T freeze instant peel apart films.
jeff_engstrom
Thanks all. It turned out to be a light leak at the tripod mount.
