markus maurer
Hi Pentaxians
I assume that some or even lots of us (me included) can not afford to buy the newest and expensive Pentax primes & zooms we sometimes lust so much after, right? I therefore would love to challenge you for a "crappy lens show". You publish 2 of your very best and new photos taken with your worst Pentax or third party lens on a Pentax body here with a photo of the lens as well if possible (you could explain your choice) as a good new year start on Sunday 2012/1/1, just like the POW. Is this a cure for LBA, no!? Who bites in this little game?
mcmanamey
I think that's an AWESOME idea.
But a cure for LBA???? I don't know, seems like an exacerbater. :D
markus maurer
Maria, nice to hear from you! What is your mosted hated, lowest IQ lens (mine would be a Tamron or Vivitar zoom or no name M42 wide lens) and would it not make you wonder IF you could get decent or even great shots with it? Maybe my crappiest lens still takes better photographs than me :-)
patrickwells
Hum interesting idea. May try my oldest least used body at the same time
johnw436
I think it's a great idea to help keep my LBA in check. (I expect to be humbled by the fine photographers in this forum who will prove that any modern lens is actually pretty good when used within its design spec.) It will prove I need to get better skills, not better equipment.

I'll have to buy that Tamron 28-75 2.8 just to compare to my crappy lenses so I can post comparisons. This is gonna be awesome!
MattB.Net
I have a cheap lens that would fit the bill but it's still not that bad if I avoid it's weaknesses. Cool idea!
harveysteeves
I'm waiting for my first Pentax Dslr body to come next week but in the interim, a few days ago, I purchased for way too much money an old M42 mount 35mm/ f2.8 lens. Its not a Carl Zeiss, not even a Carl Zeiss Jena but a Carl Jener and its a pre-set. I figure with the pedigree its going to be amazing.
jeremy_corbin
Markus! What timing you have! I have two portrait sessions today and one tomorrow. I'll shoot a crappy lens in my normal conditions to see how they pan out!
Now I just need to decide what to use... My no-name 28/2.8 is pretty crappy.... But my Vivitar "A" 28-85 is pretty awful as well... :-)
ukhov
We can make even wider application with "self-made or well improve optics"?!!
markus maurer
Jeremiah, I could lend you a Sigma hyperzoom for some real soft portraits at 300mm :-) Jener sounds like a winner, don't forget a sunshade for best results :-) I'm ready for some stiff competition now.
markus maurer
Yury, any Frankenstein lens experiment is allowed, sadly it's hard to choose a crappy body.
peter_russell4
I suppose my worst lens is the 1mm Vivitar :D

Its performance is patchy...
But one can still recognise that icon of fine motoring the Ford Transit

Top that then :)
Pete

markus maurer
Peter, thanks a lot. You should have left the photos as appetizers :-) I hope you participate again, a non real Series 1 Vivitar lens should qualify.
peter_russell4
Thanks Markus :)
May have to machine down the 1mm Vivitar to a .25mm
Oh the endless search for sharpness ;)
Pete
