Marvin
My 50D produces CR2 RAW files. I need a RAW converter so I downloaded Adobe's DNG converter. However, It doesn't seem to recognize the CR2 format. How do you use it?
William Kahn
Adobe DNG converter does work with CR2 files. What do you have selected in Preferences>Compatibility for Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) version?
jim_h.2
You can use the raw converter that Canon has for coverting adn viewing Cr2 it is free on the Canon website, its not a big file , its kind of like a plugin after you download it.
peter_foiles2
First, the Adobe DNG convertor is *not* a raw convertor. It converts one raw format (cr2 in your case) to another raw format (DNG). Second, the current version of DNG convertor absolutely supports 50D cr2 files. The program is pretty straightforward to use, just point it to the folder where your images are and tell it where you want the dng to go press convert and off it goes.
KenPapai
Also sounds like Marvin does not have Photoshop, otherwise the ACR that comes with PS (at least ACR 3.x or higher) recognizes the .DNG format.

So, either use your ACR Marvin to process the DNG files or use the native Canon software.
MarcelRomviel
Why don't you use the software that came with the camera; DPP?
William Kahn
Marvin, if you don't have Photoshop, then go with Marcel's advice...
David_Cavan
I started using RAW output last year, after having a 20D and now a 50D for several years. I installed the Canon software and told Windows that DPP professional was the default program for CR2 files. That's all it took, and I now treat RAW files in the same manner as other formats for review and initial editing, when I click on RAW files they are opened in DPP automatically, where I do some initial editing and convert the output to JPEGs. I do any final work on the JPEGs in other tools, including Photoshop.
Dave Cavan https://davecavanphotographics.com/
