Leica/Apple concept camera - Leica i9

Recommended Posts

Hey, this isn't April 1.
I will say, it's too cool for Leica, and way too stodgy for Apple, to be true.

"Black Design" clearly are not going to win any contracts over this one.

How about this one from Rollei?:

"Anyone who’s a keen photographer will have a lot of respect for rich heritage and reputation of the Rollei brand, which makes their latest tacky offering all the more tragic....Sporting all the grace of an elephant on ketamine trying to ice skate, this ludicrous device looks like something you’d win at a seaside candy grabber...Stick this oversized plastic protrusion on your precious iPhone and you’ll rightly be the laughing stock of anyone that sees you...Looking like something constructed on Blue Peter with bog roll cardboard and stickyback plastic, the lens is priced as cheap as its construction suggests, retailing for just €34.95."

Leica i9 will have an optical finder- and it's a panoramic one with ca 4:1 aspect ratio? It makes your iPhone look like Digilux 1 or even like a Holga - both being verry serious cameras!
That said, the iPhone has the best LCD screen and user interface that has been put on a digital camera so far. I wouldn't mind using one with a well designed external camera module - or without it.

For reasons unknown to me, my earlier post has had the picture, created by me and involving my own picture of an Exakta, deleted.
@Moderator:
The picture was only SAID (as a joke) to have been found on the internet. It was mine, all mine, so just delete this and the earlier post on the iExakta entirely since they make no sense without the picture.

The i9 is an example of childish ideation, wrapped in jargon, and glossed over reference to products with a great design. There is no consideration of the function of the camera. What is the imaging device, where is it located, what are its physical parameters like back focal length, what is the image captured on, how is it processed, etc? What processing and storage functions are provided by the camera and which by the phone? Any kid can draw a picture, and consultant or professor can speak jargon, and claiming inspiration from devices that works are all things you can get for free. To create a mashup concept that does not contain any practical consideration of how to actually realize the product is is a waste of time. The designer does not need to be the engineer but the designer needs to have some concept how the device works. I see stuff like that and my first thought is no need to hire Black Design Associates until they can demonstrate the ability to design a real product. Mind you if they want to create the camera equivalent of internet anime porn go right ahead. It will give someone a rise.
