denise_clark
I have (happily) used BreezeBrowser and Downloader Pro to import photos from cards and rename them on import. Problem is that BB/DL is Windows software. I am now using a Macbook and want to accomplish the same. My naming scheme has been, essentially, {camera model}_{yyyymmdd}_{hhmmss} {'uniqueness' code in case of duplicate, e.g. high speed sequence}. Example: "40D_20110227_192613 a" , or "40D_20110227_192613" if no duplicate.
I could use vmware to run windows on my mac to continue using BB/DL but that is cumbersome, to say the least. I do have aperture 2 but can't get it to do this. Can't get FileRenamer2 to do this either. Any genius out there with a solution? Thank you.
howard_m
you might want to check out this program. it's been around forever

http://www.publicspace.net/blog/a-better-finder-rename/2009/10/01/using-a-better-finder-rename-to-import-image-files-from-your-camera-with-snow-leopard/

Also, what, if any software are you using to 'import' or download on the Mac? Most of them have on-the-fly renaming capability. If you're looking for a fantastic importer, google 'imageingester pro'
ellis_vener_photography
I just rename when I import using either Lightroom 3.3 or Capture One Pro 6.1.1. If you are deliverign files to a client I suggest you use your last name instead of camera make/model. Lightroom's metadata feature allows you to search by camera and lens types as well. LAos instead of using hh:MM:SS I use a unique 6 digit frame number . My file names look like this "Vener_20110227-111111" but yours might look like D-Clark_YYYYMMDD-######

denise_clark
Thanks for the suggestions so far. Howard, re: importing software, I have only used Breeze/DL on a windows desktop and laptop. Now using a mac laptop has made me look for an alternative software.
djcphoto
Like Ellis, I use Lightroom for renaming either while importing, or after the fact. It's renaming feature is very flexible and can certainly handle your example renaming scheme.
howard_m
Like the others, I use Lightroom and let it do my renaming for me during import. If you decide to use some other method (ie. not Lightroom or Aperture or something) of getting the images off the card, then you'll want something like ingesterpro or better finder rename.
john_macpherson
Photo Mechanic is ideal for this. It is also one of the quickest browsers I've ever used. I use it to cull the keepers before importing to Lightroom. It has huge functionality and is ideal for what you want.
markonestudios
I use Bridge in CS5 to rename files. Very straightforward
J.W. Wall
Image Ingester Pro will do it.
peter_gaunt
If I've got a lot of existing files to rename I use GraphicConverter which, despite it's name, will rename files of any type. For new images I use the export facilities of Aperture.
