Creating a logo / watermark

Recommended Posts

Hello - how would I go about creating a logo/watermark to add to my photos? I have an image in mind and then my name with the copyright symbol, but I have no idea how to create it, make it transparent and use it on my photos. Any suggestions? Thank you.

With Photoshop it is supereasy: use the Text tool and type away.
Alt-0169 is the © Copyright symbol. (hold down Alt key and then press the four digits in sequence on the numeric keypad)
Then, open the layers palette and then adjust the transparency of the text layer to something between 30 to 70%. Flatten and save! Done.

Stacey,

More important that watermark / logo,... contact information on your images or in the borders is essential if you want people to contact you about buying usage rights etc.

I sell rights to many of my stock photos, which get found here on photo.net. Without the contact info in my borders, that would not happen!

BTW, I created an action in Photoshop so I can resize for web, add border and contact info, all with one keystroke.

I've created the logo that goes on my posted images similar to the way Ken described; BTW, for those Mac users the copyright symbol (©) is Option-g. To get a logo on a transparent background, though, I start in a new file with the background transparent already, create my logo, then save as a .png file. This preserves the transparency of the background and means I can put it on any colored image and show only the logo - no white box around it. I just open the logo file and then drag the logo layer to the image I want to put it on, using the Edit>Transform command to adjust size.

If you're using Lightroom you can have it put your logo on the images automatically when you export them using the LR/Mogrify plug-in. Check it out here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1822523
