tom_schuler
Not even really sure how to describe this other than a slightly out of focus halo around parts of the picture when I shoot in bright light. Using a D90 with 70-200, f2.8 with a 1.7 teleconvertor. Shot at 1/640, ISO 250, f4.5. I'll upload one example for comment.

bob_sunley
Yup, it sure is OOF glare off the helmets and jerseys. Your DOF is very shallow.

pjmeade
Interesting that the player behind the lad being hit is looking at the camera rather than at the action. A lot amateur players of all sports do that.
viewthroughmylens
I doubt he even knows the camera is there.. it LOOKS like he was looking at the player being tackled and the camera caught him looking like he was looking at it.
richard_reeve3
I have noticed that when I use my 70-200 f2.8 with a TC in bright light I sometimes get those little circles you have in the top right against the bushes. Usually when shooting into the sun or close to it. I don't get them without the TC.
gnphotography
Try using a circular polarizer filter, you will loose about a stop of light but you can make it up by going to iso 400.
dave_mccoll
No offense but number 54 is in better focus than the guy getting hit. Happens to me a lot.
tom_schuler
Tried the circular polarizer. There were 3 pros at the game on Saturday. Their advice: keep the sun at your back. Thanks for the suggestions.
On the focus, I use the wide single point focal point. I found the dynamic area and multi-point get everything but want you want to shoot. Especially for basketball, I haven't found anything else that works. As a result, sometimes you nail it, sometimes you don't. Practice helps!
