First time I submitted my works for a Photography Contest

Hello, everyone.
Didn't know whereto put this thread (here or at the Out of Topic)
Finally, I got the chance of submitting my Bikeriders series titled "Sueños de Cromo" (Chrome Dreams) to the International Photography Contest hold by the International Photography Simposium at Mazatlán, Sinaloa.
I feel very nervous about it. I wish to be the 1st place winner so badly to get the enlarger already!
Sometimes I feel like my description wasn't good enough. And of course, I bet there are times that I don't feel satisfied enough with the photographs I worked.
I would like to know from this chart of the most rated 30 projects, which one do you think could win?
http://www.mazatlaninteractivo.com.mx/sif/2010/concurso/index.php?sort=votos
Please, take a look to see mine. This one -> http://www.mazatlaninteractivo.com.mx/sif/2010/concurso/serieFotografica.php?id=155
Grant me a vote if you believe in my talent by clicking on the salmon button "Vota esta serie"
Sorry if I was obnoxious to you for dropping these links here.
I don't like the works of the guy who is in first place. I have seen better photographs related to artistic nudes, and this one doesn't appeals me that good enough. Maybe that's just me. I don't know.

You're after votes? Why not just say so to save time reading the rest of the post. But what's the point winning a competition where winning depends on who can be the most energetic drumming up support around the internet?

This entry is a good one: http://www.mazatlaninteractivo.com.mx/sif/2010/concurso/serieFotografica.php?id=276

Yep. It's true. I hate those contests where you win by popular demand.
This contest is divided by two phases:
1) Votes.
2) The jury will dictate who is going to be the winner from the 30 most rated series.
Thank you for taking a look to the first link, Simon.
Those works you pointed at are also of my liking. Specially pictures 1 and 4th.
Those are nice portraits yet I don't find them cohesive with the first and fourth.

Phase one means this is one of "those contests where you win by popular demand".

Really? It was precisely the mixture of portraits with scenes without people that I thought was very good. Portraits on their own would have been dull. From a quick glance that seemed one of the most interesting series: http://www.mazatlaninteractivo.com.mx/sif/2010/concurso/serieFotografica.php?id=276. But only in eigth place :( Guess he needs to do some vote canvassing!

If you seek recognition, submit your work to juried shows. Do web searches for "Call for Art" , or "Call for Photographs" , " Call for Entries" and similar search wor5ds. Pay attention to who is sponsoring the show. You may not want to be part of some events (this all depends on you.) Submit work that meets the needs of the show. Expect rejections.

I have submitted images for an annually held exhiition in Houston for many years. It is an open call for photographic artists anywhere. This year there were 200+ artists applied. The juror selected work by 36 photographers. One of my images was selected for display with the other 70 works. I am delighted.

Cheers!

Simon; I see what you mean now. Yeah, you are right. Definitely it gives more creativity to show the portraits with. I have a photograph of a window with the reflection of the birds flying, and I thought of building up a collection to complete a story with them. That's why I thought back then that the portraits didn't go together with those ones.
It took me a time to see them and study at them and to see what you see. :) Thank you for open my eyes! haha

Thank you Drew! Definitely, I will seek over the internet.
When telling your experience (it is very admirable to know somebody who has standed from 200+ artists!), it cheers me up to keep on participating in photography contests.
By the way, one of the contestants found out that Pedro Meyer and Francisco Mata are going to be the jurors, and the first place contest is friends with Pedro Meyer. Probably the winner is already arranged. I hope not.

I want to thank you for taking your time to see my series and for granting me a vote.
Last august 30th it just ended. The winner will be announced until the first of october.
And, yep. That naked lady ended up with more than 4000 votes.
I don't like him because he really knew the morbosity (mobscene?) was going to help him to be at the very first place. He said "The nicest ass of Mexico is still at the very first place. See it and vote for me"
Hopefully, he won't win.
Would be awesome if I win, but if not, at least the best photography project will win.
I will let you know who won. :)
This was the very first contest and not the last I joined.

Thank you once again ;)
