Lens Cap, where to put it?

I put them away when I buy a lens and resurrect them when I go to sell. My photography would not exist if I had to remove lens caps, even if traveling. If on a plane or auto, my lens end is uncovered. For protection, especially with longer lens, a bayonet lens hood does perfectly well, and lens caps are just a nuisance. If you're a landscaper, it may be quite different, but only if you take landscapes exclusively and never hope to get a 'grab' shot.
Same with changing lenses; I usually have two cameras with lenses specific to each camera, and unless shooting studio, never change lenses. Too many opportunities in the field to drop a a lens or get a sensor dirty. Just switch cameras and go. Everything for me is speed. Pick up a camera, frame and take a photo and put it down, all in three or four seconds.
When necessary or the subject is transitory. It may apply with fleeting light in landscape or wildlife too, I've found.
If you cherish lenses too much, you may end up with no shots at all for those special things you see, but do not have time to record. Little gets by me because of my emphasis on speed. I can see, frame and shoot in an instant, sometimes in less than one second if my camera is in my hand.

Just throw it away!
I threw a lens cap away once. Didn't really lose it, I know where it's at . . . somewhere on the bottom of the Mariana Trench!

When preparing my camera (different lens, different Port) for the Underwater Housing, I forgot to remove the lens cap!

Nothing more frustrating than realizing this when you are 90 feet below the surface, ready for that "once in a lifetime" shot, and . . .

You ever "skipped" a 58mm metal lens cap across the surface of water?
I think I got like a "10 skip" out of that one!

Take the cap off, turn the hood around and mount it, put the cap in the camera bag. The cap doesn't go back on until it's time to put the camera away. The hood stays on until that time too (unless it's in the way of a filter). Same goes for the hot shoe protector if I'm taking my flash with me - it stays in the bag.

Man, this has got to be a new nadir in hand-holding advice, LOL.

Mendel has, I think, seen through the whole post. It's really nice to be retired, isn't it guys? This thread could go on forever, if it weren't Photo.net form to scroll the old posts off the bottom.

Now why did I post here? I know I had some reason...

like the others i put in Left hip pocket. but in case of sitting i put in bag or in front pocket. you can put in bag during photography, its not required remove or put for a short time, don't worry about dust.
