abhishek gupta1
I like doing a lot of night photography and I regularly feel my images are not sharp even after using a steady tripod.
I usually choose more than 4 minutes exposure vvith F 11 @ 100 ISO

i vvant to knovv the reason vvhy my images get grains even on 100 ISO...is it because of the lens 18-55 vvith a 500D
or very long exposures tends to get grains.
Plz post your suggestion.

Many Thanks.

imb_ngone
Are you talking about moonlight photography or just long exposures at night?
When I started doing moonlight long exposures I was getting some blur on my images, even tho I was using a heavy tripod. Things that helped was using a release cord, and locking the mirror up.
I also noticed that even walking around the tripod while the exposure was going would affect the sharpness of the pictures, specially for exposures longer than 4 minutes. I think the longer the exposure and the less available light you have the more grain you will see. I recommend lowering your F stop to like 4 at least, go for shorter exposures, lock the mirror up, cable release, dont walk around tripod while exposure is going, and use the most of the moonlight!

Palouse
Why do you use VV instead of W?
ryan_k
Or you could just shoot some medium format/large format film and never worry about noise... just a little bit of reciprocity error. :)
mike_tornero
One thing to double check is if your using an IS lens you need to turn it off becuase your eliminating vibration by using a tripod. If you leave it on while your camera is on the tripod the lens will be trying to stabilize your shot resulting in a bit of blur.
Hope this helps.
