Where can I find vintage lenses?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to get a small vintage len for a project that I am working on. I though of a flea market but now in days I guess it should be easier online. What I am looking for something really cheap and old, I don't mind if it is broken, damage, etc... If anyone has an idea where to find lenses online or in the miami, Fl area please let me know.
Thanks!

You seriously can't find anything on Ebay?!

Ebay has just about everything imagineable, especially if you are willing to watch for it for a few months. Do searches for these auction numbers for examples: 310369010786, 200695142524, 150722872268, 140671733075, 270873371841, 200695311385. I get a dozen hits for a Petzval lens. Almost everything else is more abundant.

If you feel you must buy locally, try Craigslist.

Check out
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=2&_nkw=rapid+rectilinear
Lenses like this are often bought for decorative purposes, so ones with lots of shiny brass and antique features like pneumatic pistons cost more! You might find it cheaper to buy a complete old folding camera.

Heberto, i cant believe you didn't find anything on eBay, seriously you can get anything on that site. i think you just need to learn the words to search for.
So i am guessing you want to do a a photo collage and have an old lens in the center, probably a lens like the ones you see press photographers using in movies set in the 40's, because that is considered a large format lens and it has a shutter too. It is usually not that long and would look real nice mounted in the center of your photo collage. Especially if you remove the rear element.

Look in Shutterbug Magazine. There are ads for a number of companies that specialize in all manner of vintage photo equipment. Also, Google the most accurate description you can of what you are looking for. I just Googled "vintage lenses" and got a bunch of good hits. Best wishes.
