jim_j2
Go to www.usa.canon.com
Open up the Consumer tab, do a search for the EOS 1D, then go to the Drivers & Download tab. Open it and somewhere you will find a downloadable .pdf file of the User's Manual.

Hope this helps,
Jim J.

Didn't know that; nor would I have, as you obviously did, think anyone could operate a 1D right out of the box that is.
(Google is/was too obvious in that they (Google) failed to give me what I needed, as did you).

I'm also having problems operating this brand new 17" HP Pavilion dv6-2150us "entertainment center" laptop.
Might you assist there?
"Annoying"? As I could have used other resourses, you could have just as easily not read my post in that it was/is, or seemingly so to you-beneath you.
Thanks for the backhand.
steve_dunn2
No, operating the camera isn't obvious. But figuring out how to use Google, checking the manufacturer's Web site, or contacting the manufacturer to ask about acquiring a manual are.

If you've already searched, tell us where you've searched. Otherwise, we have no reason to believe you're not doing a "search by others" request because you're too lazy to do it yourself. Looking at your profile, I see you've been here a while, so surely you've seen a gazillion of those by now, so you know what I'm talking about.

The ten-word incomplete sentence giving no insight into what you are looking for in a flash (best macro flash? best small and lightweight flash for a little fill? best all-singing all-dancing flash?) also doesn't help give the impression that you've put some consideration into what you're asking before posting it, either.

les
Ed - let's not exaggerate with 2,000,000 pages...

The search phrase is "1D user manual download".
The FIFTH link from the top on the FIRST page is a link to 1Ds user manual page - and on the same page is also 1D MkII and 1D MkIII (and couple of others).

Now let's try the flash:
Search phrase: "best flash for EOS 1D".
The FIRST link on the FIRST page is a link to http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/ - which BTW is a must-read flash bible. It specifies all of the current Canon flash units - as it was updated by NK Guy (thanks !) on 19 February 2010.

Time total: 25 seconds, including download of the manual.

So - please cut the BS regarding searching through 2,000,000 replies. And no one is demeaning you by suspecting you of being lazy - the above example illustrates quite well than maybe you should work on a) your patience; b)possible laziness; and c) how to use Google.

After all - you had time and patience for dissecting the answers 10 different ways and writing lengthy rebukes.

And: "This forum thus is, and serves for me as the most logical, knowledgeable "Shortcut" to the empirical knowledge I seek for a newly purchased camera I know nothing about."

So - if this resource (PN) is so valuable and time saving - then why don't you join as a paying member ? This way at least you could justify wasting the (equally valuable) time of others.
