Can the moderators post a sticky instructing posters to google for obvious answers like this before posting a "search by others" request? It's annoying.

"Obvious"?
Operating an out of the box EOS 1D body is "Obvious"? Didn't know that; nor would I have, as you obviously did, think anyone could operate a 1D right out of the box that is.
(Google is/was too obvious in that they (Google) failed to give me what I needed, as did you).

I'm also having problems operating this brand new 17" HP Pavilion dv6-2150us "entertainment center" laptop.
Might you assist there?
"Annoying"? As I could have used other resourses, you could have just as easily not read my post in that it was/is, or seemingly so to you-beneath you.
Thanks for the backhand.

No, operating the camera isn't obvious. But figuring out how to use Google, checking the manufacturer's Web site, or contacting the manufacturer to ask about acquiring a manual are.

If you've already searched, tell us where you've searched. Otherwise, we have no reason to believe you're not doing a "search by others" request because you're too lazy to do it yourself. Looking at your profile, I see you've been here a while, so surely you've seen a gazillion of those by now, so you know what I'm talking about.

The ten-word incomplete sentence giving no insight into what you are looking for in a flash (best macro flash? best small and lightweight flash for a little fill? best all-singing all-dancing flash?) also doesn't help give the impression that you've put some consideration into what you're asking before posting it, either.

No, operating the camera isn't obvious. But figuring out how to use Google,

I'm not patient enough to wade through 2,000,000 replies on Google, nor do I have the time to search 2,00,000 replies. This forum thus is, and serves for me as the most logical, knowledgeable "Shortcut" to the empirical knowledge I seek for a newly purchased camera I know nothing about.

checking the manufacturer's Web site, or contacting the manufacturer to ask about acquiring a manual are.

Did that-done that and finally found and dowloaded a PDF EOS 1 instructional manual.

If you've already searched, tell us where you've searched.

"Us"?
You're "Us" now?

Otherwise, we...

"We"? Ah, I see, you're speaking royally, assuming, even arrogating to yourself the royal titles.

have no reason to believe you're not doing a "search by others" request because you're too lazy to do it yourself.

So again you demean me without knowing, casting asperisons ("Too lazy") when you (anyone) could have simply remained quiet as most will.

Looking at your profile, I see you've been here a while, so surely you've seen a gazillion of those by now, so you know what I'm talking about.

"...seen a gazillion of those"... what's"?

"by now, so you know what I'm talking about."

I do not know what you are referring to.

The ten-word incomplete sentence giving no insight into what you are looking for in a flash

Grammar technician to go along with your arrogant intemperance?
On/in this august forum, I presume some things/questions/topics can be asked without always filling in all the blanks, such as asking about the (absolute) BEST (ETTL) flash for the BEST camera (EOS 1) of its time; there, is that wordy enough for you?

(best macro flash? best small and lightweight flash for a little fill? best all-singing all-dancing flash?) also doesn't help give the impression that you've put some consideration into what you're asking before posting it, either.

"Either"? Knwoing you have seen my profile, you had to make a note of the fact I don't spend much time here nor do I post a lot. I’d like to know why you spent so much time ragging on me and not one second answering the OP?
What (top of the line Canon ETTL) hot shoe flash would you recommend for the EOS 1?

Ed - let's not exaggerate with 2,000,000 pages...

The search phrase is "1D user manual download".
The FIFTH link from the top on the FIRST page is a link to 1Ds user manual page - and on the same page is also 1D MkII and 1D MkIII (and couple of others).

Now let's try the flash:
Search phrase: "best flash for EOS 1D".
The FIRST link on the FIRST page is a link to http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/ - which BTW is a must-read flash bible. It specifies all of the current Canon flash units - as it was updated by NK Guy (thanks !) on 19 February 2010.

Time total: 25 seconds, including download of the manual.

So - please cut the BS regarding searching through 2,000,000 replies. And no one is demeaning you by suspecting you of being lazy - the above example illustrates quite well than maybe you should work on a) your patience; b)possible laziness; and c) how to use Google.

After all - you had time and patience for dissecting the answers 10 different ways and writing lengthy rebukes.

And: "This forum thus is, and serves for me as the most logical, knowledgeable "Shortcut" to the empirical knowledge I seek for a newly purchased camera I know nothing about."

So - if this resource (PN) is so valuable and time saving - then why don't you join as a paying member ? This way at least you could justify wasting the (equally valuable) time of others.
