Happy Easter Everyone!
It's about 12:45am... So I'll start us up again.
Last Sunday was my birthday. My wife, Caitlyn, asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said I wanted a photo shoot. So that's what I got! Although we stayed up pretty late, I got some great shots and lots of experience trying to light up the living room....er..... "studio."
These two shots are with my *istDS and the MkI kit lens.

Not only was it fun for me, but apparently I'm a comedic genius!

Jeremiah, you had more success than I have had getting my wife to do the same thing. I told her that was what I wanted for father's day about three years ago and I am still waiting.
Well, i started my spring break this past Thursday and I am off all this week as well. (sometimes teaching is a great job) This first shot is of a friend's daughter. She was in a short theater production we had at school on Wednesday and I just caught her from backstage.

00W9ls-234189584.jpg.26131cc8728d9a7c542b664fffb7566b.jpg

I have been teaching a friend of mine how to use PS. She wanted to pay me and when I said no, she got me a one year membership to a place called Chanticleer, which is old estate that has been turned into a beautiful flower garden. Spring has finally arrived.

00W9lt-234189684.jpg.17d36d3078829e072647e1c9767934a8.jpg

Robert - young actress lovely shot, and the flowers are simply stunning. I bet they would look superb really, really, really big.
My pic is tongue in cheek - Easter bunny stuff. Just delivered the Easter eggs. Lens baby snap and natural light. No time to do properly as the chocolate was soon being eaten up.
Happy Easter everyone.

I shot more hockey this past week. Three championship games. This one is not by any means the best but tells a bit of a story. The fellow getting attacked by his teamates just scored the overtime goal to give Saint Mary's Huskies the Canadian university championship. On a related note, I ran into a fellow shooting for the Hockey Hall of Fame... he was also using a K10D. K10D, DA* 200mm, 1/500s, f/3.2, ISO 1600.

On Friday morning I went out to the arboretum for Dallas Blooms. It was time for the requisite Spring time flower shooting. They say over 700,000 bulbs were planted; it's rivers of tulips. The day was rainy, overcast, so I had very thin crowds and wonderful softbox like light. It's days like these I love my weather sealed body and lenses. There's another 17 or so images in this FB album.

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=160913&id=613062242&l=cbcbdabaf7

00W9qP-234227784.jpg.ad36ffb2d52c6fabc76bcf9d7061cc79.jpg

Jeremiah, your wife cut her hair! Good job getting her to pose for you, and even better job getting her to give permission to post here. I struggle to get pics of my wife, and when I do, I can't show them off because of a strictly enforced NO POST directive :-D

You caught a great moment in that second shot; whatever clowning around you were doing worked ;-)

Robert, your first valley Forge National Park is typical you (I mean that in a good way). Props to you for waking up that early, too :-D I got your e-mail about the Boston marathon and will be replying soon.

A simple shot of a young girl at the beach. Shot with the K10D and a D-FA 100mm Macro. Natural light, no flash. Some post processing in CS4 to clean up the skin a tad and soften the photo.

Ah in true Pentax fashion the official thread is the one that received fewer post! (i posted 4 full minutes before Jeremy hence the official moniker)

Ok, I'm a non comformist too, so I get it ;-)

Colvin on top of 6ft of snow! If you think he looks serious, he is, he loves deep snow...eventually he'll lose some of that puppy energy, and avoid bounding through it, but for now it's fun to watch him intentionally hike through the trees were the snow is unbroken and DEEP!
<a title="Hey Colvin, how deep is the snow?" href=" Hey Colvin, how deep is the snow?

Justin, I think it's funny that I waited for someone else to start... waited... and waited... and then I said to myself "Self, let's go." I posted and then logged off. I didn't even think to get back to the main forum to see that you'd posted just minutes before I did. LOL

Next time I'll just go at 12:01. :-)

I am going through my 1st roll with my Pentax 645N. I used Fuji Pro 400 as I thought the 400 is more versatile for me to try out in the 1st roll. This is my first trial on my $160 flat bed scanner with Canon 8800F. It comes with the 120 film guide which happens quite handy. I used 4800 dpi on some and 2400 dpi on others in the scanning from negatives
My setup with Pentax 645N, FA 45mm f/2.8

#1

I am actually have some doubt on what I am doing. I feel the whole process takes patience that I am lacking. I will try out other things such as b&w on people next or perhaps some slides. All the conveniences and comfort with digital and perhaps a good 35mm camera still dawn on me what I am trying with the 645N.

Hin, you might have doubts about your process, but those shots look excellent to my eye. You can easily tell it's film and not digital. It's one of the reasons I was looking at 35mm scanners so that I could continue to shoot film and also scan in my old shots from the last 15 years. :-)

Jonathan, after cropping the pic to where I wanted it and making some basic adjustments in ACR, I converted it to B/W. I then added a layer mask (using PS CS3). I then brought back the color in her face at about 60% opacity. Then using a Color Efex Pro 3.0, I used a filter which is designed to soften the light. She was standing on stage when I shot the image and so the actual lighting was whatever spotlights were on at the time. She was standing off to the side and I was backstage. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Dorus, thanks for your comments. And everyone else for that matter. The orchid shot is really nice, I really like the color and the use of reflection.
Haig, I love the butterfly collage. I can never get them completely in focus, nice work.
