Desert wildflowers this year

<p>Does anyone have a good feeling for how the desert wildflowers will be this year in Cal/Nev/Az? As I understand it, there have been good spring rains. Anyone?<br>

<p>In theory, they should be excellent in Arizona this season.

The rains have been fantastic. The weeds in my yard are going

like gangbusters. The hillsides are turning green, and it should

be “any moment now” that the flowers start

blooming.</p>

<p>Considerable rain in Death Valley about two weeks ago, should be good flowers on the way. Phone the park office-- I think wildflower prognostication is such a frequent question that it's one of the voicemail options!</p>

<p>Another web site you can check (primarily for CA) is http://www.calphoto.com. It has frequent updates, provided by users, regarding good wildflower locations.</p>

<p>Mark, Anza Borrego State Park in Southern California reports that because of cool weather there is a delay in blooming until the first two weeks of March. There has been quite a bit of rain and a spectacular bloom is expected. The numbers below can provide information on that park. Andy<br>

The area east of Phoenix has received massive rainfall. Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the surrounding mountains should be excellent.</p>

<p>While in Tucson in January, we were told that the flowers need rain in the fall to germinate, and so even though there was considerable rain during the winter, since the rain came so late, the flowers would be sparse.</p>

<p>Friends of ours live in Joshua Tree National Park (rangers). They're not photographers and this is their first season there, but they've told us the flowers are blooming now and that it's lovely. </p>
