rustys pics
Just by coincidence, I dropped off a roll of Kodak Portra 400VC from my Zeiss Nettar the same day Chris Tobar posted his thread about a Zeiss Nettar and Ektar. Today I got the film back and was decided to share some of the better with the group. I began this roll sometime last Fall, probably in October around my birhtday.

rustys pics
My son was playing in the yard. Most of the leaves had fallen off the Pin Oak tree my dad and I planted for Arbor Day 1971.

rustys pics
The image above is color corrected. This image below is scanned using a technique I stumbled upon a couple of years ago. Using my Epson 4490 Scanner, I scan the 120 film as "24 Bit Color" but with the FIlm type selected as "B&W Negative". I've only ever done this with Kodak 400VC Portra, but the color reminds me of the old Kodacolor prints my family used to get back in the late 60's and early 70's. Very nostalgic for me.

rustys pics
Here's another one. I know the Zeiss Nettars are supposed to be tough to get Candid shots with, but if you Zone Focus and stop it down to 16 it's hard to miss! That cool little leaf shutter goes "Click" and you've got the responsiveness of a Leica on a beer budget and a bigger negative.

rustys pics
I can't resist another shot done in the old Kodacolor 1970 brown. No photoshop post processing was necessary!

rustys pics
This camera sits in my dresser drawer. I had 3 shots left when I found it under some T-shirts last week. I pass by a cool old Donut Joint on my way home from work on Wednesdays. For years I've wanted to take a night shot. So that particular day I packed up my tripod and the Nettar. I just guess the exposure....10 seconds maybe at f/16. A Krispy Kreme will never have the look of this old place from the 1940's.

rustys pics
Actually Cliff, if you look on the right side of the Donut building you'll see the cop car! I tried to darken it...don't want no tickets!

rustys pics
Here's a color corrected shot of the "Boogertron" standing in leaves. He's not too sure about that contraption the old man is holding....

rustys pics
I did 3 shots of the Donut Stand. I blew the Composition on this one, but I think it's what life looks like after one too many Donuts....

rick_drawbridge
Cute kid, very retro pics...enough to bring on an attack of the warm fuzzies. Nice post, Russ, and I think I'll keep off the donuts for a while..
ralf_j.
Very nice series Russ, the color looks great and one more vote on the titled donut composition. Rules are meant to be broken. Thanks for posting.
chuck_foreman1
Cool trick with the scanner. Indeed this is just the look of old Kodacolor snaps. I can'T say if they faded or this is how they came.. but that's definitely a nostalgia kicker. Toning B&W photos is done to give permanance, and beauty etc. Meanwhile everybody thinks its a clear sign of a very old picture! Whatever! Amazingly sharp results with that Nettar. Nice idea to plant a tree with your Dad!
rustys pics
Thanks Gentlemen. I've never tried that scanning trick with any other film or camera...just this particular Nettar, which does have a coated lens, and Kodak 400VC portra. Kodak changes and kills film so often, that I think I'll get a couple of 120 pro packs of 400VC.
silverscape
Great pictures, Russ! I'll bet your son is playing in the SNOW now, right? I'm really liking the look of Portra (even the normal scans). That's the next film I'm going to have to try!
k5083
Awesome scanner trick! It really nails the old film look. I'm going to try that with my 4180 very soon. And nice pics all around.
rustys pics
Thanks Chris and August. I'm really VERY curious to know if your scanner gets the same "1970 Kodacolor" look.
