POW 12/13/09 Pentax

<p>I want to post few more pictures from my first three rolls of Kodah professional 400bw film. I emailed the film camera owner and share with him my excitement back to film and he likes the driftwood shots along with beach shots. </p>

My Canon 8800F flatbed scanner has arrived. I will try it along with the film lab that I love. The next major milestone is trying out developing the film myself and scan it myself. And the 645N will come next if I like my processing steps.</p>

<p>Will, That's great! Yes, I think it is just a little further to the east from where I shot. It looks like Montgomery Ave in the distance. It was a happin' place in the late 60's early 70's. Of course it still is on a warm summer day. Do you still live in Philly? Thanks for sharing this.</p>

<p>Robert, I am an ex-South Jersey guy. Went to high school in Mount Holly, frequented Belmont and Fairmount Parks a lot in the 60s and 70s. Loved the free concerts there. I live in Richmond, VA, now. I've been admiring your Philly shots for a long time now. Let's think about getting together to shoot next time I'm in the area.</p>

<p>I didn't shoot much except basketball this week but did get together with some Pentaxians in DC yesterday. It was more social than shooting for me but I did grab this in the Metro. </p><div></div>

<p>A rather dismal day today, about 1 deg C and rain falling on the snow. This is an old barn near Milton Ontario. K200D, 75-150mm Soligor zoom.</p><div></div>

<p>It snowed all week here so I didn't get out much. I did do a bit slacklining in the front yard though. For those who haven't heard of it, slackline is similar to tightrope walking except as the name implies the line is slack. So instead of walking like a balance beam you have a line that swings and bounces like a trampoline and the idea is to sort of surf the line. Its a lot more fun than it sounds, and great excercise.</p><div></div>

<p>We're experiencing near record highs and way above normal moisture here in east central Florida.<br /> This is from this morning at the bird feeder. <p>Well, it got cold here on the Columbia River also, but no snow! The first is of the edge of the river, temperature 0F. </p>

<p>Javier, you've got to get that kid a copy of <em>Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain</em>, or something else by Betty Edwards. She is a very good author on instructional drawing books; her techniques are used in a lot of art classrooms. Whether she's coaching herself, or taking art classes, that book will probably help her to improve. As good as she is now, in five years, she'll ace the whole thing. You never know, she could be an expert photoretoucher in the making.</p>

<p>Well I've finally aquired a good film scanner. A Minolta Diamage Multi Pro came up on Craigslist locally and it was priced low enough to make a good profit via Ebay if I needed to. What a difference vs. the Canoscan 8800f. Most of that detail I could see in the slide but was not making it to the computer is now coming through. I am like a kid in the candy store.<br /> <br /> The first slide is from my 645 and is taken at a friends place in Eastern Oregon near Condon. I believe it was abandoned in the early 70s.</p><div></div>

<p>This is actually from a RolleiFlex but I thought I would sneak it in here. This is Smith Rock here in Central Oregon. I bought this camera locally in need of repair for not much money. I dove in far enough to find a spring out of place in the shutter mechanism and that fixed it up like new. <br /> <br /> There have been a lot of interesting Medium format camera equipment I have picked up on Craigslist lately for less than half the cost of what things are going for on Ebay. I also try and pick up stuff that needs repair. I fix it, use it a while, then sell it.<br>

I am a Mechanical engineer, with a lot of hands on experience who likes to fix stuff. So the buy, fix, sell routine works great to pay for the photography hobby while I am unemployed. The big problem is that I fall in love with some of these cameras (like the Rollei) and they are hard for me to sell.</p><div></div>

<p>I fought the fence at this sub-station trying to get the lens in between the links for a clear shot. I think after I gave up and just included the fence the results are better.
