mikal_grass
Can I use the 105/2.5 Nikkor PC on my M6 body with an adapter? If so, does anyone know where I can buy an adapter? I am in Florida, so anywhere in the US would be fine.
Thank you very much.
mikal_grass
Let me refine my question: is there two of these kinds of rangefinder lenses, an ltm and a non-ltm? If so, can I use the non-ltm on an M6 with an adapter? Will I need an adapter for the ltm for the M6 as well?
Thanks.
mt4x4
I'd ask Bjorn Rorslett as he seems to know a lot about Nikon glass.
fred_c1
RF Nikkors were available in 3 different mounts: LTM, Nikon and Contax. Get the LTM version and LTM-to-M adapter.

There are adapters for the other 2 mounts, most of which are harvested and cobbled up from Kiev bodies and not really compatible with Leica. (Long story. Go to dantestella.com for the details.)
joel_matherson
You can get Orion type adapters as Fred has pointed out and this will allow you to use any Nikon S or Contax Rangefinder lenses on Leica M (depending on the adapter you get), however they are often very expensive for what they are and I think you could probably find a LTM version of the 105 for not much more so thats the way that I would go. I have one of the generic orion type adapters that was made from old Kievs and it is a bit wobbly and not consistently smooth from minimum focus to infinity. The LTM version just require the very easy to obtain, and inexpensive LTM to M adapters that were made by Leica and many others including Voigtlander, this would also allow you to choose an adapter that brings up the framelines of your choice. Orion adapters are all set to bring up 50mm framelines.
kelly_flanigan1
Here I have the 10.5cm F2.5 Nikkor in Leica Thread Mount; plus many 105mm F2.5 in Nikon F slr mount. With my Leica M3 or Epson Rd-1; I use the LTM variant with a LTM to M mount adapter. One can focus with this combo; it the RF patch.

There is also a Nikon F to Leica M mount adapter from Novoflex I use too. Here one can focus to infinity. BUT one is using the scale; or thru trial and error via the Epsons LCD screen to look at actual images recorded. Here I use the F to M adapter with mostly Wide angle Nikkors; and oddball lenses like my 105mm F1.8 Nikkor in F mount.

The CAN use the Nikon F slr 105mm F2.5 lens on a Leica M camera; it just is not the most practical thing at all to pull off with ease. One has to get an expensive Novaflex Nikon F to Leica M mount adapter; PLUS one has the sick open loop focus method; ie iffy ie trail and error.

Using the Contax rangefinder Nikkor 10.5 cm Nikkor on a Leica M seems like even more of a kludge; Joel mentioned this. My bet is combo would not have a focus by Lieca RF patch.

Your best bet is to get a real LTM Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 to use on a Leica M camera; instead of a kludge. IF you already have a Nikon F to Leica M mount adapter; then one could play around with a Nikon F lens and maybe get a few shots that are actually in focus.

With the 13.5cm F3.5 Nikkor for rangefinder; it actually came in a FOURTH mount for Exakta slr too. Nikon made a factory made 13.5cm F3.5 Nikkor for the Exakta VX series slr in the 1950's.

If one has a Nikon F 105mm Nikkor; then using a Nikon slr body would be better.
The 10.5cm F2.5 Nikkor in LTM comes in black and chrome trim; both vary widely prices on ebay.
kelly_flanigan1
Here is my 10.5cm F2.5 LTM Nikkor on my user M3 DS with SS upgrade.

The lens has a 52mm Filter; a lens hood for the Nikon F 105mm F2.5 works well; like the HS-4 or HS-8 I have here.

My 10.5cm LTM has a tripod socket.

Of course to mount the LTM lens on the M body; there is a LTM to M mount adapter. The one I use keys up the 90mm frame; which is not an issue for me to use.

The fstop on mine is in two places; nice if one has the rig for a vertical shot on a tripod.

The lens is single coated and a great performer. It is the same Sonnar optical design as used on the Nikon F 105mm for about 12 years; ie until 1971.
