amul
Several years ago, I ran across a monacle-like loupe which was, if I recall correctly, produced by one of the major lens-filter manufacturers. When the photographer looked through the object, the scene was rendered in black and white, somehow.

At the time I dismissed it, but lately I've found the idea strangely intriguing and want to buy one. Of course, I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Hope beyond hope, does anyone have a link to somewhere selling the cursed things?
georg_s1
Hey Amul,
maybe the „Peak Mono-Tone-Viewer“ is the thingie you're looking for. I got mine several years ago from Monochrom in germany. Currently they offer a „Tiffen Black+White Viewing Finder".
Hope this helps, georg.
amul
Thanks, Georg! That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Out of curiosity, do we actually see black-and-white through the lens?
leicaglow
I can't remember the name or brands any more, but cinematographers use them all the time. I had one at one time, but didn't find it that useful. I think I paid around $500-600 at the time (around 20 years ago). Look around the film industry and I think you'll find them.

georg_s1
Amul,
the Mono-Tone-Viewer renders a rather dark and brownish view of the scene - the colors are muted and barely distinguishable.
So it's not really black-and-white but close enough for me.
georg
