Hasselblad strap disintegrating?

<p>The rubber threads on the strap of my 500CM Classic are falling apart, producing small pieces of rubber which may get into the camera or whatever. Has this happened to anyone? What can I do about it besides trashing the strap? It got so bad that all I need is rub my finger on the strap the rubber would come off. Any info would be much appreciated.</p>

<p>Nope. But if you're afraid of it damaging the camera, I wouldn't wait to replace it. I like the OpTech straps for Hasselblads, but then I usually don't have straps on my cameras.</p>

<p>Don't use a strap which is visibly deteriorating! Replace it (but save the end clips). I use an Op-Tech strap which came with Hasselblad clips.</p>

For many years my 501C was my main travel and walkabout camera - I tended to stick to just the 80mm lens so I carried the camera around everywhere over my shoulder. <br>

Now all the the anti-slip rubber that's woven into the strap has worn off, such that it's bare nylon.<br>

As this slips around and off my shoulder too easily : next time I'm in Calumet, I must order a replacement and a spare.<br>

Currently I'm at 501C,201F,203FE,SWC/M and only two straps - one of which is now rubber less :-).</p>

<p>I've had the problem, too; it's a a shortcoming Hasselblad never seemed to solve.</p>

<p>Thank you all for responding. Following your advice, I have just ordered an OpTech strap. Hope to get it soon. I will probably order one for my DSLR too. Reducing weight by 50% sounds great to me. Cheers and thanks again.</p>
