Parts for D200

<p>I need to replace the one of the rubber body pieces on my D200. I need the piece thats on the right side of the body (when looking at it from the front) where the pin connector is. It has started to come off. I have glued on other pieces that started to come off with good success, but this one is giving me a little trouble. Im thinking it may be easier to just get a new one.<br>

Will Nikon USA sell me this part? Should I just call them directly, or is there a parts department number I can call?<br>

Any help would be greatly appreciated.<br>

<p>I've called nikon directly before for an SB-28 plastic shoe that had broken. They warned me it was alittle fickle to replace myself but sold me the part for a few dollars. I'd imagine the Rubber bits they'd sell you also, but i wouldnt be surprised if it came as a whole set.<br>

<p>Unless the rubber piece is torn or somehow damaged you don't need to replace it. What's needed are the two-sided adhesive strips used to attach the rubber skin to the body. There are several (four?) custom-cut pieces, each with their own part number.</p>

<p>I had trouble with the exact same area on my D200 that you are having difficulties with. I learned through a photo.net thread that an excellent glue to solve this problem is Pilobond. I finally found it online at Bass Pro. Ordered it and it works like a charm. You might want to give it a try. Good luck.</p>

<p>You might also consider buying the body armor for your camera. I don't know if it would cover up that area, but it would continue to provide some protection.</p>

<p>You put Pliobond on the back of the rubber piece and on the area of the body where the piece goes. Let the glue set up for a minute or so before pressing the covering to the body.<br>

There's also a glue at electronic supply houses called "GC Bond" that is essentially the same a Pliobond but usually cheaper. Much better that double faced tape.</p>

<p>I had to do this for a Nikon D50 here in London—I called Nikon UK and they sent me the part very quickly. Based on the UK cost and the usual UK:US cost ratio for this kind of thing, I'd guess that Nikon USA would charge you around $5 including postage. In my case, I'd removed the old part and cleaned up the adhesive residue so installing the replacement, which was self-adhesive, took me just seconds. The worn and peeling rubber piece was the camera's only fault and replacing it made a big difference to the feel of the camera. (Sounds wrong but that's how it was.) Well worth doing.</p>

<p>In the designs of the D80 and D90 (which are based on the body design of the D50 and not the larger D70), Nikon modified the body's shape to reduce the lateral force on the rubber pieces and appear to have largely eliminated the problem. I was impressed when I saw that change on eventually upgrading from my D50 - they changed the mould in two places, both of which were affected by wear issues on the D50, presumably at some considerable cost. And I bet that most users wouldn't notice—it's just someone inside the company trying to do things right.</p>
