"Halo" around grid in Profoto 7" grid holder. Normal?

I bought a couple Profoto 7" grid reflectors off ebay so I could use with my old Speedotron grid set. They are pretty dinged up (as advertised) but the grids fit snugly. One thing I've noticed is that both of these used reflectors allow a "halo" around the grid. The halo doesn't actually spill any light into the scene (i.e. the gradient edge of the light is preserved), so I'm assuming this is normal for the design? My only concern was the gridded light creating additional catchlights in eyes, reflections, etc, but if this is how it's supposed to look, then I'll live with it. I do remember my old speedo's not having this issue, so is this normal, or are these things dinged out of shape?<br>

<p>talked to a friend -- seems like some black cinefoil around the edge will work just fine. Thanks anyway -- I'll keep them it's worth it for the price I paid. </p>

<p>This is normal. If it is effecting your photos, and more than likely it is not, use a little cinefoil around the rim to block the bleed around.</p>

<p>Here is a tip for getting narrower angles of illumination with any 7 inch diameter grid: go on eBAy and search under Balcar for what is known as a dual disk reflector. This is a flat 7" diameter heavy aluminumdisk makes or made that served two functions:</p>

<ol>

<li> Use it in place of a standard dish reflector on Balcar heads when using an umbrella. it flls the bowl nicely.</li>

<li>With any 7 inch grid reflector (Balcar, Briese, Broncolor, Paul C. Buff Alien Bees/Einstein/White Lighting Ultra/ Zeus, Comet, Dynalite, Elinchrom, Goddard, Hensel, Norman, Profoto, Speedotron, etc. any system that has a 7 inch diameter reflector designed to hold grids in the reflector) it significantly reduces the angle of illumination coming out of the grid equipped head. Works like a charm.</li>
