david_schilling___chicago_ Posted September 12, 2008 Share Posted September 12, 2008 Don't really have a single favorite part of the day. The formals are often most satisfying for me professionally. I enjoy teasing and playing with the bridemaids during the getting ready part of the day. The Sacrament itself has deep spiritual meaning. Reminding mom of the bride's first day of school. The father-daughter dance can move me to the point of tears occassionally along with a heartfelt toast here and there. There's a spirit of joy/love and some people either "get it" or they don't. Each time I see it and capture it it almost brings me to tears as well. Being able to experiment and get a bit wild with assorted lenses. To this day my favorite lens to play with is the fish eye. It's been my favorite lens for many years. katie_ouellette Posted September 13, 2008 Share Posted September 13, 2008 I have grown to love the 'hand off' - where dad kisses the daughter, mom is watching, and she takes the hand of her almost-husband. Many of our brides are quite young, and this part of the day gets me in two ways: the first being that really, my husband and I have only maybe 12 years left before we might be entering this era ourselves (our oldest daughter is 10 years... a lot happens in 10 years) very soon, and second, it really puts into perspective the hardwork and rewards that go with parenting. It seems that this is such a bittersweet moment for parents: letting go, and yet so proud of their daughter's accomplishments, and (mostly!) very accepting of the man she is marrying. Yes, this 'hand off' moment, for me anyhow, is a glimpse into what parenting is all about. It'sthe pinnacle, or something. I am glad that my camera is big enough to shed a few tears behind without nobody noticing... except my husband, the other photographer! This is the point when everyone relaxes and as a photographer it is possible to have a window into the relationships that exist within the B&G's circle - it's a great time to capture those off-beat, fun moments and enjoy being a part of the day. DickArnold Posted September 13, 2008 Share Posted September 13, 2008 Meeting the bride and mother or mother-in-law, groom, father etc before the wedding to establish a rapport and a modicum of trust that translated into a cooperative, mutually supportive relationship for the event. This helped me capture the humanity in those faces and others when I could. It is so much easier to shoot a wedding when everyone is somewhat comfortable with one another. I always felt that any success I had came from those early interviews. Monte Zucker was a master at this and I kind of picked up on it in a course I took from him a long time ago. I enjoy the part of the reception after all the "events" have taken place and the guests and the bridal party start to celebrate "the love". Of course there are many quiet weddings but the ones where people are genuinely celebrating the wedding are my favorite. Second would be the actual ceremony because of the wonderful emotional moments. amy cupp Posted September 14, 2008 Share Posted September 14, 2008 Oh my goodness! Just one... Well my absolute fave is when the bride walks down the aisle. I ALWAYS cry. Next, the prayer because it is just so beautiful watching both families come together as one and pray for this new joining. Next, the bride getting ready because I really get a chance to help calm her down and make her day a little less stressful. Next, when the father of the bride comes in to see her before she walks down the aisle. Next, anytime they play a slideshow I nearly ball. Next, The father daughter and mother son dance. I guess I am just a crying mess arent I? Next, the dancing. I am talking about documenting them getting crunk here yall. I love love love a party!!!! The memory of sore feet says when I go to the bride and groom at the end of the night to make sure there are no late guests or last minute photo requests and I can go hime.
