leicaglow
You need to decide a few things before you get many recommendations. 1) circular or full frame, 2) probably the angle to cover: 180 degrees?, and what quality are you after? The simple answer would be the 10.5mm Nikon, but there are other options. The problem is that the 3rd party lenses are about the same price as the Nikon, which is quite a good lens. leicaglow
I should also add that you might want to rent one if you can to see if you like it. I own the 16mm Nikkor for full frame, but it is not the most useful lens in my bag. You might want to consider a 12-24mm range wide angle instead. Though more money, it might be infinitely more useful.
don_cooper
The Nikon 10.5 is excellent! Sharp from corner to corner even wide open.
liljuddakalilknyttphotogra
I would recommend the Nikon 10,5mm. I went through this just about a year ago - decided to try the Nikon. I even use it for fun as a "macro" substitute if I'm not carrying one. Super lens. Just love it. I call it "Mini Beast" as it's the Terrier of lenses - - it has no idea of it's size & that it's supposed to have limitations. It knows no such thing. ;-) Lil :)
eric_arnold
i'd get either the nikon 10.5mm or the tokina 10-17. the nikon is a bit sharper and is a 2.8,, but the tokina has pretty good IQ and allows you to vary the fish effect.
joemoree
I was debating between the Tokina and the Nikon myself, until I came across a great deal on the Nikon. If you shoot lowlight that 2.8 will come in handy.
dangin
unless you shoot wide open at f/2.8 all the time, the tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-5.6 is a better alternative IMO. why? 1) the nikon wide open is f/2.8, the tokina zoomed out to match at 10mm opens to f/3.5, the difference of about 1/2 a stop is negligible unless you're shooting in the darkest of places. 2) you get zoom range with the tokina. 3) the tokina is actually usable on a full frame camera if you ever get one. at 17mm you can actually fill the frame. just my .02 :)
