alistair_woods
Hi I am looking info on what is the best lens to buy for the motor bike road raceing. I have a sigma 50/200 lens and find I cant get in close enough to get the best shoots. Your help would be of great help to me. bill_clark___minnetonka_mi
I would recommend a fast lens. Either a tripod or a monopod for the camera. Fairly high ISO. Can you get closer to the action? Hope this helps you.
waltflanagan
There is no best lens for motorbike racing, it all depends on how close you are. This shot was taken with a 14mm lens. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=5919&Page=1 Since I usually can't get that close I use a 300mm f2.8 and 500mm f4 lens. What's your budget? You can easily spend $9000 for the "best" lens.
shoppix
Alistair - As Walt said, 300 - 600 range. But many of those are Big buck$/Euro$! I just got a used Nikon 300 f4 for $600. Perhapo get a teleconverter to match your Sigma and try that for extra reach. Another alternative is to rent a 'big'/expensive lens to try before buying. I tried my Sigma 2x converter, but does not work. So I will need the Nikon teleconverter. Problem with that on an F4 is that you loose 2 stops of aperture, so before/after mid-day light, not very useful.
curious_george
I have shot super bike racing for while and all depend on track location. My favorite is the 80-200mm nikon(replaced by the 70-20mm VR or soemthign in the 400mm AF PLUS)...best ideais to have 2 cameras with both lenses.
