robert_montoya2
When I look into the viewfinder of the camera, it is very dark. It's not the lense, because I've tried 2 different types. When a picture is taken it comes out very dark and grainy as well. Anyone experience this before? Robert
Michael R Freeman
Sounds like a problem with the aperture stopdown magnet in the 3xi. This is a very common problem with early Maxxum's. IIRC, the magnet sticks and causes the lens to stop down to minimum aperture, regardless of what value it is supposed to be set to. This results in a dark viewfinder, and underexposed (dark and grainy) photos. Given the dirt cheap prices of a replacement body, I think that usually it's not economical to pay for a commercial repair.
melvin_krick
Hello. I have the same problem with my Maxxum 3xi. Is it feasible to try and repair the aperture magnet stickiness yourself? Trying to get a repar manual on the internet is like pulling teeth! It seems like the Minolta Co. (now Sony) is very reluctant to give any advice other than "send to to the repair shop".
