tonmestrom
it seems that my photo's who were rated very good can't be found in the top gallery's. Posted one yesterday wich received 16 ratings (A: 5.88 O: 6,25). While I can find photo's with fewer ratings and lower scores mine just seem to disappear. Now I don't mind about those ratings as such. What I would like though is the extra exposure if, like in this case, it seems merited. It's not the first time either. Maybe I just don't know how the system works. Anyway, could use some advice on this. Thanks for your trouble.Regards, Ton
Norma Desmond
Ton-- If you are looking at the default view of the top gallery, that only includes anonymous ratings. Getting into the default gallery does not take into account raters who rate with their names, of which you have many. That was instituted because people tend to rate their mates high, and the administrators seem to think that anonymous ratings are a better way to judge. At the top of the galleries, there is a pull down menu, and you can view galleries in a way that includes all the ratings you got, including the named ones. You can view the last 3 days top rated photos, the last week, last month, last year, etc. Good luck. --Fred We didn't need dialogue. We had faces! gordonjb
Ton, try setting different parameters on the TRP page. I believe the default choice only includes anon. ratings. Also the time you uploaded the image determines its placement. In other words you may have asked for critique in the last twenty four hours but if you uploaded the image to the site a week ago you are not going to see it unless you change the setting to one week. It took me a while to sort it out. Now I rarely remember to look at the TRP. There are other issues with the point at which they choose to decide your average but I frankly never sorted that aspect out so maybe someone else can jump in. joshroot
There are a number of reasons that your image might not have made it into the default Top Rated Photos list: -The ratings you were given might not have come through the rate-recent or rate-category interface (required for the default view). -You might not have had enough ratings to qualify. Each time frame has an increasing number of ratings required to qualify for the top photos in that timeframe. -You might have uploaded the image and then waited before submitting it. The 24 hour (or 3 day or one week) timer starts counting from the time the image is uploaded, not from the time the image is submitted. Re anonymous ratings: Anonymous rating is in place because people could not act like adults. Harassment, revenge ratings, and nasty email were all common when all ratings were public. You personally may be able to take criticism well, but many, otherwise normal, people have proven that they cannot. If they think their image is better than it was rated, they react horribly. If you do not wish to mess with ratings, you can submit your image for "critique only"
tonmestrom
Thanks all, Fred now I know. I've uploaded it before Thanks for the explanation and making it clear Gordon, thanks, as always Josh, thanks also and finally. Ratings for me are just useful for getting that extra exposure. I think that's one of the reasons why we're her.
