lisa_smith12
Dummy here in a hurry to learn to use my digital camera for a basketball game tonight. I need to be able to take action shots in a gym lighting (poor). I just don't know what to set the shutter speed to and the aperture to. Any advice would be helpful. milton-chris
Shot on M (for Manual). Shutter speed at minimum of 1/250, higher is better. Aperture as big (lowest number) as possible. ISO at 1600 or higher. Dependent on camera, lens, etc. Don't forget the white balance. Juding from your question, you are not experienced, so will likely have to rely on using auto white balance. If you have some comfort with computers, then the suggestion would be to shoot RAW so that you can fix many of the horrible results in post-processing. shoppix
That's about it!!! As Chris explained. What camera, lens etc are you using? Now, where are you going to be sitting/standing during the game? What age are players. High school players are faster thatn middle school, clooege and pros faster still again. So, faster shutter speed needed. steve
William Michael
My comment is too late for sure . . . My guess is the lens`s speed (Maximum Aperture) will be the limiting factor: you will need a fast lens, possibly F 2 or faster. The focal length (FL of the lens will depend upon you camera viewpoint (CV) and your ability to roam, or not. WW
