mharris
I got my 80-200 2.8 ready to go for my first college basketball game. It's women's basketball, any tips to keep me from being smothered by 7 foot tall beauties? I'm good on a football sideline, I played for a number of years and know when to drop a shoulder. And Wilson? I know I shouldn't do this and it may get me banned but GOOOOOOO COUGSSSSS!!! Since it was Brink's last game and evidently Coach Doba's also I printed this shot on 13X19 for them: <img src="http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f158/mharris660/brink.jpg">
stwrtertbsratbs5
Female players that are 7 feet tall? Yikes! I'd suggest that you carry a fast prime lens or two with you, too. Sometimes the lighting is poor and an extra stop or two can make a huge difference. Nice shot, by the way.

mharris
Thanks everyone! The quarterback and the big guard in that photo are seniors and I thought it would be nice to present them the photo. It really shows a very good "pocket" and pretty good protection. I'm taking my 80-200 2.8 and my 50 1.8. That's all I have, I plan on getting a 85 1.8 pretty soon.
wilsontsoi
Hi Michael, you'll be perfectly fine with 80-200 f2.8 and 50 f1.8 for Cougs men's and women's hoop. Vary your point of view, shoot from baseline as well as stands at different levels. You'll have decent light at Friel Court (don't really need f1.8 there) and will probably be at 1/500 sec., f2.8 and still get ISO 640. Have fun at the game. ^_^<div></div>
wilsontsoi
BTW, sorry about coach Doba. IMHO, they should've just let him coach the last year of his contract. Save WSU some dough and give him a chance to prove himself for the full duration.<div></div>
mharris
Man Wilson those are some fantastic shots, that Brink one is flat our perfect. My wife and I like Doba, he is a nice guy and when his wife died it was like he lost his heart. WSU is cash-strapped so it's going to be hard getting a quality coach I think. Basketball was tough for the first few minutes. I finally gave up on my monopod and shot vertical. That was the best in the end. My white balance is a bit off but I shot raw and I'm fixing it now. I'll post a few in a bit.
