antonia_wright
Hi, The International Center of Photography in New York City has two one-year programs, one in photojournalism and one for general studies. There is also a photography school in Paris that has several different programs raging from one week to a year...I'm forgetting the name though! Good luck! john_smith163
Hallmark Institute of Photography has the best 1-year program around, best program in general in my opinion. www.hallmark.edu
sally_metzger
Hello - I am actually just about to start the one year program at Hallmark Institute of Photography, and cannot begin to tell you the amount of support and recommendation I have received for this school. I am so incredibly excited to start. You just better be ready for lots of work, because from my understanding, it's pretty intense! Well, good luck. Check out their website. Really cool. Sally M. bill_chenaille1
Hi Y: Check out The Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University (www.cdiabu.com). We are in the city which lends intself to students finding part-time work and internships. The faculty is made up of amazing professionals who have worked for National Geographic and the like. Also, we focus on real-world traning so our graduates know how to make a living doing what they love. Compared to many other 1-year programs, their tuition is surprisingly affordable ($21,000 + $350 supply fee) Plus, they require a digital SLR (Canon, Nikon, etc...) which you can use in your professional career immediately after graduating from school. There are 3 full- time career services personnel who work for the graduates in helping them find work. Email me if you have any questions. bchenaille@cdiabu.com
httpwww.photo.netphoto1664881874
If you want a very good professional photography program look into CDIA in Boston its part of Boston University. It takes 9 months and they will give you a very sound digital technical background. So you can come out of that program and be able to hit the streets running with anyone in the professional world. I'm talking about studying hard core Photoshop, digital capture, of people and product, models, wedding and events. I have been teaching there for 2 years. I taught for 2 years at Skid-mark or Small-mark thats what we called it. And that place was a joke. That's one man's opinion. I loved the students. I had a great time with students. I'ts all about the students for me and nothing else. That place is all about the money and the pimp who owes it.
y_effendy
thanks for all the suggestions.. has anyone heard of Speos? any comments? Tim&/Bill: I've read about CDIA, and seen the portfolios briefly online, I feel that they lean more toward the digital imaging, is it right? httpwww.photo.netphoto1664881874
Yes, to your question CDIA is an only digital school. Film is never ever going to be used again in commercial photography its just cost to much. Good luck with your search.
bill_chenaille1
Hey Y: I just checked out wikipedia to be clear about your question about digital imaging. They state "The term is often assumed to imply or include the processing, compression, storage, printing, and display of such images." While this is certainly a strong component of CDIA's program, it is only one part. The acquisition of the original image is where cdia excels, and this is "photography". The program spends a large amount of time training the photographer, then brings the digital imaging component to the table. I have been shooting professionally for several years. While there are many parallels between film and digital technology, the lines have definitely been redrawn in post- production. What I mean is when we shot with film cameras, we sent our film to the lab where professional dark room technicians (today's digital image editors) worked to process & print our photos. Now that we are shooting digitally, most of us are not sending our unprocessed images to the lab for them to process & print. We are all doing this step in house. So point-blank, if you are going to become a professional photographer, I recommend looking into a program that offers a significant amount of digital imaging along with a solid photographic foundation. Plus, everyone here is having a great time. I mean it. The atmosphere is a relaxed intensity and students are having a BLAST. Every day I walk down into the labs and the students are hard at work having a GREAT time doing what they love. There is a lot to learn, but sometimes it doesn't seem like work when you have to do something you want to do. Y, what field of photography do you want to pursue?
