janicem
I'll try this again... Can anyone identify this SPOT on my pix? Thanks!<div></div>
brucecahn
May be a black hole, but more likely there was some emulsion rubbed off or a film defect.
janicem
HI! Thanks for the reply. If I understand your answer correctly, you think the spot was caused by film? I used a D Rebel & a flash card...no film. (?)
jim craig
Is the image from a DSLR? Does the spot show up at the same spot on other photos? If it is from a DSLR, possibly it is something on your sensor. Presumming that it is a DSLR, set your camera to f/22, aiming the camera at a piece of blank white paper so as to fill the viewfinder, un-focus and shoot. This will soon show up any foreign objects, dust bunnies etc. on your sensor.
phoneguy
It's dust. It's either on the sensor, or the rear lens element.
mendel_leisk
Looks kinda like this one, which I was able to get with just a bulb blower. Get your manual out, read up on the camera menu section on sensor cleaning. Don't get too excited about Canon's instance that you must use an AC power source, just be sure to start with a full or near full charged battery. Take a pic at f22 of something like blank paper, before and after, to see if you got it. If it won't budge something "Copperhill" (google it) method will be needed.<div></div>
Spearhead
EXIF data is present in the image so it should be immediately obvious that it is not a film problem. And it does appear to be dust on the sensor, especially since it was shot at f16. Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
janicem
Thanks to all for your response. I sincerely appreciate your help and your time. This spot is on about the first half of the images I shot. I don't think it is on any in the last half of the 75 or so images. Where did the spot of dust go? Do I still need to do something about it? Thanks.

jim craig
Janice, it may not show up against a dark background. Do the test two of us have suggested, you'll probably be surprised at what you discover.
