Have you guys seen the new 5D series ads taking pot-shots at Nikon? When talking about the full frame

sensor, they something along the lines of - "of course Canon would be the company to feature a full frame

sensor - after all - we're the company that listens".

Ouch!

Saw it in the latest issue of Pop Photo.

When I went to PhotoEast on a regular basis in NYC every year, the Canon people were always

friendly, easy to talk to, and very responsive with my questions. The Nikon people, it

seemed, ignored everyone who didn't have a Nikon SLR dangling from their necks. They

didn't give me much help. That ad copy is true, by my own experience. Don't know about

anyone else's.

Listen? Maybe, but not with their rebates, suddenly they're deaf as a post. This is a touchy

point as some have had excellent success getting their rebate and some haven't. I contacted

Canon's office about the status of mine, now nearly 2 months old, and they redirected me to

the rebate company. They may make a good product, but their customer services leaves

something to be desired.

I guess they're making reference to the fact that they're the only company who've answered photographer's request for a 35mm sensor. This of course is true, I'd expect them to use it as an advertising point. As long as a company doesn't make any actual false claims ( anyone ever see those Panisonic IS P&S adds ?)I don't get very upset about adds. Good luck.

According to Ken Rockwell "A stock-market analyst reports that Nikon has gone from 9,000 people to 15,000 people at its plant in Thailand in the past year. Nikon makes 80,000 D40s, 90,000 D40x, and 100,000 D80s there every month."

They might not be "The company that listens", but I hardly think that the Nikon Board of Directors are exactly accountable to hacks like me on Photonet.
