lesa jones
Just a thought Greenspun...incorporate...sell stock to raise capital. It may be that you find your investors right here on this site. The ones of us, who believe in it, and promote it everyday to friends and family. Consider it. chetn
Adblock plugin for firefox, it works and will change the way I enjoy all my web browsing not just this site. A big thankyou to photonet for prompting me to take action. There exists a solution to funding this site but "that add" isnt one of them.
joshroot
I can only imagine the problems that trying to take photo.net public at this point would cause. What a nightmare.
lesa jones
Oh come on Josh...the idea should at least be entertained. Wouldn't necessarily have to be public either. Or if public, could opt for preferred shares rather than common. Lots of alternatives.
philg
Lesa: If you read the letter from the editor, January 2007, linked from the home page, you will see that the "incorporate and get rich from investors" scheme was tried in 2000. That is why we are in such a tough financial spot.
philg
Bryon and Jessica: photo.net does not own any aircraft, just FYI, and seems unlikely ever to generate enough revenue to operate any. The "photo.net fleet" mentioned in the internship ad was kind of a joke (apparently the irony was lost on you). I am a partner in an unrelated aviation business and we have two helicopters (available for rental and instruction at Hanscom Air Force Base) and one airplane. lesa jones
High Five-Kudos-Yeah Baby! Nice work PN for getting those ads removed. I will eat crow and say that you did what I thought, and believe stated, that you could not do with such limited resources. You have earned a vote of confidence from me, and actually endeared me to the site a bit more. When faced with the problems and very unhappy community, you did not fold under the pressure in fact, I am sure it motivated and challenged you. Congrats! Thanks for PN's hard work in pulling off, what felt like yesterday, the impossible. Greenspun it seems that in this instance, your having the reins of the company, was vital in accomplishing the goal. (Did you give any thought to the stock photo brokerage?) Again KUDO, CONGRATS, HIGH FIVE, ON A JOB WELL DONE! LJ
aeaster
For a day at least we have had something other than 3/3 raters to bitch and moan about. Ah, it was nice while it lasted.
halcyonlll
What happened to old Photo.net ? Can i switch to the old theme ? I mean nothing works. I can't see any thumbnails, none of my images, no artist page, nothing, except the front page. How long is this going to last ? To get a feeling about what i'm talking about, here's a screenshot. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/halcyon_lll/untitled.jpg
david shelby
Smiles! The ad are gone for sure and as Andre has said, Now we can go back to bitching about the 3/3 thing. Thats always good for a run or two down the thread of enlightenment!
jeanajean
It looks like that someone is making fun of us. The problem -obviously- is not that I see the ads, the problem are the-ads-at-my-photos-in-general. So, when I am not logged in, I see the ads, but when I am logged in I do not. That means that the ads exist at my photos for some people. BUT...I DO NOT WANT THEM, ok? CAN ANYBODY SAY SMTHNG ABOUT THIS SERIOUSLY?
philg
The Amazon ad will disappear from the photo display page before tomorrow morning. We are letting it run a bit longer to get some data, but basically people aren't clicking on the products so it will not solve our revenue problems. juansant8
Hey Leza, Congratulation, you make the magic, my ad is... gone, adios, sayonara, aloha. para el carajo. Thanks to you and all.
pjmeade
If the ads are upsetting the punters, it's hardley likely that said punters are going to be clicking through.

hugh_hill
Phil, what Lisa said about P.N having it's own image library is something I have been thinking about for sometime too it doesn?t make sense to have all these wonderful photos nested in one place just to look at it would be great if potential buyers could browse and purchase images for conditioned use*. I know that I myself would want to help but I think you know how I feel about the huge corporations taking over! I have a huge database of social equality images that the mayor of London & the GLA have shown great interest in as well as Transport for London and many of the U.K governments departments relating to individuality, diversity & equality, the reason I have not is I have not the time nor funds but if Say there was a service that allows one to have a space for a library then it would be great to share the rewards with the said service. The same thing goes with publishers, if they need to acquire images for publications they need look no further. I came and fell in love with p.n because of its community spirit and dedication to the art of photography and it saddens me to think we have to sell out to the big guns when we can do it ourselves, it may not be easy but we can do it! *. (this would first have to be agreed upon and thought about so that the artists work cannot be abused or used for anything other than what was agreed upon.)
