danbliss
Hi, First of all, thank you for a wonderful web site that both to the people who run it and to all the wonderful photographers that contribute. Ok, please forgive me because this is a completely self indulgent question. I was wondering how the top photos are calculated. I ask this because I submitted a photo yesterday, and at the moment I have 6 ratings (5 from old users), achieving 5.83/5.83. Now, I am sure that will go down when more people see it, but still... Yet, I couldn't find it at all in the top photo list. I am guessing that this will be my only chance ever to get on the first page of top photos, and somehow I missed it. There are far more important things in life, but I am all for taking joy in the little victories whenever they occur. Am I just missing something? Just curious. Thanks again for a wonderful web site. I am having a lot of fun with it. Dan
Michael R Freeman
The top photos are sorted by the initial *upload* date, not the critique request date. Because you uploaded your Longfellow bridge photo on Feb 17th, you will never see it in the default view (3 days). Sorry. :-( It might eventually show in the "Week" or "Month" views. therese
Making this undocumented feature better understood would eliminate some of the grumblings that folks have had. I know several folks who have been grumbling that good photos did not make it, had indeed submitted them for rating days after up-loading. Mystery solved. Is there a way to put this on the page that explains how the rating system works?
raddatzphoto
I agree with Therese. After experiencing similar, I now understand why I often stumble upon a great image, which I had never seen, although I peruse top photo's daily. This thread explains exactly why. I doubt most realize this flaw.
