jose_cervantes
Does anyone have any experience with this new lens: Tokina AT-X 107 DX Fish Eye lens 10-17. I have used a fisheye lense 16mm before, but this new tokina lens is a zoom fisheye. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on it. I am considering buyin it. hugh_crawford1
You should ask over in the Pentax forum. It's a joint project between Tokina and Pentax ( one of them makes it and it is sold under both brands but I don't know who actually builds it. )
User_276104
Herbert Keppler has a short SLR column this month in PopPhoto and discusses it. He has mentioned a few times in the past that a Pentax 16-??mm Fisheye Zoom for film was one of the neatest lenses he'd used, being that you weren't stuck with only the fisheye perspective when you had it on the body. I'm thinking I might give it a try...I've had the Nikon AF 16mm for a few years and, while it hasn't gotten a ton of use (what fisheye does?), it has served me well when the right moment came up. jose_cervantes
"I'm thinking I might give it a try...I've had the Nikon AF 16mm for a few years and, while it hasn't gotten a ton of use (what fisheye does?), it has served me well when the right moment came up" fisheye is actually overused in skateboarding photography. Im thinking of getting a Nikon d200 and will need a fisheye, so Im considering the nikkon 10.5 or the tokina. Im worried that the tokina is not a prime lens, so therefore my question on it. guso
I have ordered one today. I love extreme wides, and the deformation they produce. I own a SIGMA 10-20, and although it is a very fine performing glass, it lacks the extreme degree of curvature the fisheye provides (and I like). As the Tokina 10-17 is a fisheye, my expectations in deformation of the perspective will be fulfilled. But as it is a Wide angle zoom, by zooming I can reduce this curvatures, and make the use of this lens more "general use". I think I will enjoy this little lens a lot! I agree with most experts that the fisheyes (fixed focal lenght) are difficult to use and very limited, but this fisheye zoom may overcome this opinion. Once I've played with it a little, I will post my impressions.
