Troll
I'm tired of all the pissing and moaning about the M8's very minor problems, particularly by those among us who don't (and probably never will) buy one (including me). Eventually they're going to get it right. There's been enough, actually too much, already written about it. Let's move on.

albert knapp md
Well stated, Bill.... What camera was perfect at the launch? Let us all sit back, take a few good deep breathes in, and RELAX about this. The Company knows its reputation and survival are on the block and they will fix the problems.... I, for one will be placing my order in the near future....
cdnguyen
Bill - I have mine on order for couple months now. Hopefully I'll get it next month. Can't wait to mount my M lenses on that chrome M8 !

vinay_patel
"Let us all sit back, take a few good deep breathes in, and RELAX about this...I, for one will be placing my order in the near future...." Someone who hasn't even placed an order let alone bought one is in a better position to relax and less of a position to suggest it to those who have an M8 or had expected to get one recently. I never wrote a single scrip for Vioxx, a lot easier for me to be nonchalant about the affair than someone who'd prescribed it to a couple thousand patients. john_r._fulton_jr.
I agree Bill. Especially all the gripes from people who don't own one or at least have one on order. Kinda makes you wish for a good film versus digital string. Kinda.
dan_fromm2
Y'know, Leica's customer list ought to be very valuable. Filled with rich suckers. At the prices Leica charges, there's no excuse for products that don't work as advertised.

derek_stanton2
Maybe it should be up to the people who actually spend 5-10 grand on the camera/system to decide when they want to stop discussing it. It's a week-old 'problem.' You think it's somehow more valid to still discuss whether or not some schmuck should buy a 20-year old Summilux or a 40-year old Elmar? No, i'm not buying an M8 either. And, yes, i sadistically find the whole mess a bit amusing. But, when i don't want to read a post about which lens to take to Rome, or how awful it is to be dependent on batteries, i just don't read it. This 'magenta' issue is a problem. It's just not up to us to decide how big of a problem it is or isn't. That's what a "forum" is about.

I am interested to see in a few months (about the time I could actually afford this camera) what Leica has done to fix the issues. I am willing to bet that this will be a footnote in Leica's history and the future M8s will have a fix in place for the magenta and the banding issue. Hopefully. forum_shopper
While there is actually something to be learned about photography from most M8 posts, the same cannot be said about the self-indulgent and exclusionary original post in this thread. This is a Leica-oriented forum and there has never been a rule that those who do not own certain gear should not post to discuss it. It is not necessary ever to have seen an M8 in order to make intelligent contributions to discussions about its merits. The same cannot be said about, say, the Noctilux. As for the profusion of posts about the M8, if Leica and some reviewers had been more candid and forthcoming at many points during the development and introduction of the camera, I'm sure there would be a lot less need for customers, potential customers and interested third parties to hash things out in internet forums that the original poster has exactly zero obligation to read. mingus1
I returned my M8 on monday, got the refund and will wait for the M9, until then matters might be resolved but not structurally, up until that point I will be using my Canon 5D mostly with my Leica R lenses. I bear no grudge upon Leica, after all it was to be expected, I bear a grudge towards our most beloved $hungry wedding photographer and so called reviewer. They should ban him from photography all together, go read his current lame excuses on the LUF, I'd say give him a fishing rod and send him to someplace quiet where one can only fish .... But let's not start theses rants again, even if they Sean Reid rants, no ... J. don't, ... remain friendly now, the poor chap is only trying to feed his family ..... vinay_patel
A month ago Leica was backordered into next year's batches, now dealers are going down their lists offering refused M8s from the first batch to those next in line. A LOT of people who don't own an M8 never expected not to have one in their hands right now.

What a weird post...Pretty self centered , inaccurate and downright condescending, don't you think? Leica will probably never introduce another film camera in full serial production.Their future depends on the M8 success and there is nothing, nothing more important to keeping this company going than the M8. I for one have learned a great deal form all the 'pissing and moaning' about this camera nd it has helped me greatly to identify whether or not it is the camera for my requirements.Without it all I would have been much less prepared. Like it or not the digital portfolio from Leica will be their 80% focus, so I can only reccommend to get used to the 'pissing and moaning' posts on the M8 and other digital products, because this is just the start. No offence Bill but I just see the strength of your post as inappropriate. andy
keirst
I love my 2 M7 bodies. I'm sure the M8 will be tweaked to work fine. It would be nice to have an M7.2 with 1/8000s shutter with 1/250s flash sync. I don't need digital, but I do wish the company may do well enough in that realm to improve their film offerings. Nobody would have thought Zeiss would be selling MF film cameras and lenses by the thousands in 2006. I hope Leica succeeds.
