conraderb
Russ - good idea, BUT I would definitely try a different approach. First, remove the water bottle from the bike when photographing it. also remove the lock. you need to be aware of these little distractions. on the bike's special day, it is your responsibility to make the bike look as beautiful as possible. you can't do that with a water bottle and a lock sitting on it. next - watch out for a tree growing out of the bike seat. this is a sign of a total amateur! Then, I would recommend some vareity of composition. with one exception, you seem to not use wide angles, preferring a 85-120mm 35mm film equivalent point of view. it is classic, but it is boring. maybe you can get on a ladder and shoot the bike that way. or get right down on the ground. why just shoot from the side? maybe from the front and the back... finally - your lighting is generally good, but the last two images are horrible. I can't see the detail in the front wheel! didn't you see that you were uptting it in the shade? who wants to look at a dark front wheel? a little fill flash would have helped tremendously here. no, seriously, great idea. and great bike! ashley_williamson
Conrad, I think Russ was just taking some snapshots to show us his approach to marketing. But great advice! (Photo.net-ers are so helpful!) :-) Russ, great idea! Just think of it as free advertising (minus the cost of the signs). The more you ride the more people see it. If I saw a guy riding down the street with a sign on his bike I would definitely look! Props for getting a little creative! I'm sure it will pay off. bdp
Conrad... I agree, the detail on the front wheel.. hahahaha Russ, great idea, btw: is that a custom built bike? Never saw the rear wheel so far back except on hill-climber motorcycles.
xcapekey.com
conrad thanks for the tips....these pics were meant to just show some friends my new zany idea and won't be used in an ad in of themselves.... i do plan and taking a portrait with the new setup and putting it on my webpage though the bike is pretty stable. the extension is made by xtracycle and can carry up to 200lbs. i usually carry my camera stuff on one side and lightstands on the other...works great! aka eve adams
Let the guy have his water bottle and lock, what good is spending money on advertising if your bike gets stolen while you are passed out from dehydration!!!
xcapekey.com
hehe...i honestly didn't notice that lock....it's a small cable lock that locks my leather brooks saddle (which i think are the best saddles) to the bike frame....the lock I use to actually secure my bike is a 10 lb (not kidding here...) kryptonite chain lock that could double as a boat anchor :)
Brad_
Looks pretty neat - very creative. When business picks up, how about mounting a 30" LCD panel on each side. With a small computer driving them with a slideshow of your work. Generator-powered off your chain. :=) I've got the same Brooks tan leather saddle with the big copper rivets - it's great... www.citysnaps.net
