isphotography
I'm looking for a lab to Make 5-6 large prints for me (around 20x30) & mount them on foam board or plexiglass. I'm undecided whether to go from a drum scan of the negative, or the actual negative (one of them i can't find, so there'll be at least one solely digital print). I use A&I in Los Angeles when I'm there, but want to avoid the shipping costs. Any recommendations?
helenbach
Laumont and Duggal are the first two labs that spring to mind.
isphotography
thanks a lot for the recommendations. those places look great. i ran across modernage on the 'net, too. know them?
craig_shearman1
Modernage is a well known lab going back to the 60s or 70s but I've never used them myself. I have used Duggal and they're excellent. Was very amazed the the quality of some very large prints I saw there a couple of years ago while waiting to pick up my own work. They are equipped for VERY large printing and in addition to traditional darkroom and digital printing make things like 6-foot high prints for bus shelters or retail store displays. ted_chambers
I'd recommend Duggal as well. They're on 23rd between 5th & 6th.
michael_w.
I've always been happy with Duggal's work (for processing and printing), but their prices for 24x36" prints gave me a bit of sticker shock. Granted they're continuous-tone custom prints on archival paper, but is there anyone else that can do it for less than $160? The cost goes down for multiple prints, but I'm currently only selling single images and would rather not carry "inventory" if I can help it. Many thanks!
