r_lopez1
Newbie to lighting "long/large" areas. I'm looking for recommendations on wireless light triggers and portable lighting systems. I've only used the SB-80dx for my N90s - I've no experience with portable lighting beyond that. I want to expand the lighting I use. I've got large ideas that will need portability. I don't/can't use a portable generator (noisy) so battery power is a must. I need about 14 lights minimum. Length of images will be as long as 300 feet. Cost is somewhat of an issue. Speedotron 2403 seems appropriate but I don't know if they're portable. ANY suggestions will help, thanks.
ellis_vener_photography
spedotrons are great but heavy. Suggest you look at multiple Dynalight or ProfotoAcute 2R packs and heads or multiple Alien Bees monolights if cost is an issue. The Pocketwizard MultiMAX transceivers are the industry standard remote controls.
stephen_ratzlaff
If you mean studio quality strobe battery powered ... you're gonna have to pay quite a bit for this equipment. OTOH, if you mean small flash battery powered strobe then get a bunch of old Vivitar 283's or 285's and use inexpensive triggers on all but one of them, then use a wireless device like Ellis recommended on the primary flash to trigger it. The primary flash going off will then trigger the others.
scottelly
Look into Alien Bees - http://www.alienbees.com - they have a killer discount system, since you're buying 4 or more lights. Plus, their Remote One wireless system is the best I have seen advertised (I just ordered one, which I plan to trigger with another wireless system to keep the wires away from my camera. The advantage of the Alien Bees wireless remote system is that you can control your individual light levels for each strobe with one remote without going to the location of the light - great for controling lights around a park or building that would require long cables otherwise. Alien Bees portable battery and power packs seem like a real bargain too. Good luck. Scott
