there_is_no_dark_side
Hello all, I am new to this website, and have a number of old, color, 2 1/2-by-2 1/2 inch slides (I think they're 2 1/2 in.), and I would like to get them printed or put onto a CD if possible. I really don't want to have to go and get the appropriate projector for them, as you all know that viewing slides on a screen is a real pain. Anyways, I would like to know if there are any places in the D.C. or Maryland area that can do such a thing. The slides are already processed, I just need them enlarged and printed. I REALLY NEED these slides printed, as they mean worlds to me, and I would REALLY appreciate any help in this matter. Thank you.
there_is_no_dark_side
Correction: They are Medium-Format 120 Ektachrome slides, same inquiry though, any help would really be appreciated.
h._shafi
Depending on how many you've got, you might be better off buying a film scanner, especially if you still shoot film. You can then either print them yourself at home or have them printed by a lab. Enlarger prints from slides can still be done, but fewer places still provide this service. But since you wanted them on CD's anyway, you'll still need someone to scan them. I'm sure that others will have plenty more to say about this. Good luck. yance_marti
Depending on the quantity of slides that you have then you may want to think about getting a film scanner as H. Shafi suggested. I'm guessing you will end up paying $1.50/slide at a minimum. Then transfer to CD is another few bucks. If the pictures have dust then there will be additional retouching fees. It could add up in price very quickly. Digital prints can be easily made from the files anywhere.
diegobuono
<<as you all know that viewing slides on a screen is a real pain.>> Jim, this is very subjective, in fact for me (and many others) viewing slide projected on a screen is a real pleasure. Try to see medium format slides projected, you will be amazed.
carl_schultz4
Jim, Try to find a lab with a ProPhotoCD (kodak) system. They can scan at multi-hires and produce a CD for you. As the others said, if you have a large number, then buy a scanner.
