ta da da...old verses new

Recommended Posts

As a long time Nikon user I've seen Nikon/Nikkor lenses' build quality

and in some cases optics degrade over the years. Newer doesn't always

equate better, With Leica, however, I read the opposite to be true,

About a month back I looked over this new $2500 90mm Leica lens, and

oh what a beaut!. The build and finish reminded me of some of those

old Nikkor lenses, except for the optics. Leica lenses were envied

even in yesteryear, and a far cry from the plastic rattling Niks of

today. Go figure.

Actually 2 pancakes, as discussed elsewhere.

Frank has shown remarkable restraint in having waited a full month before sharing this with us. No doubt in the meantime, the quality of Leica lenses will have improved even further. Who knows what the future holds.

Canada has a reputation for producing fine comics. Witness: Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Martin Short, Wayne & Shuster et al. Comedy is a fine art and Frank takes it to a new level. I can honestly say that Frank can be declared as Canada's premier national joke. Frank laments the decline in Nikon lens quality. Maybe Frank you've owed too may E Series Nikon lens. I discern this from your recent attempt to sell your FMnt with 4 Series E Nikon lenses. Frank knows better that the E series was designed as an affordable consumer level lens and were made with polycarbonate barrels and mounts. The Nikkor series Ai and Ais were largely built with nikons own glass, coatings and brass focusing mechanisms. Bye the way Frank have you looked at the Panasonic Lumix series, lovely leica lens??? Oh my, polycarbonate lens from Leica???? To sum things up Frank likes to throw pooh pooh into the fan; start a flame war and sit back and watch the fun. As said Frank is the joke and it only works if we pay him attention. Lastly Frank is your CL still banding. I repair cameras for a living and your CL suffers from a condition known as banding which I have seen most often with shutters on Kiev 88CM cameras. Time to sell the CL at auction and go back to your FMnt and rejoin the Nikon forum to complain of the quality of Leica products .

Then I will have to buy new older Nikkors and convert my FM2T into a rangefinder, but I'm not sure how to remove the mirror. Naaa. I shall have my CL fixed. I shall. ;*)

Wasn't Oolong from Japan? Wasn't his owner/human a Contax SLR user? If Frank, a Canadian, is not allowed to get a pancake award, how about a picture of Oolong with another object on his head? Recall he balanced things other than pancakes.

The real secret to Leica rangefinder photography is finding yourself a couple of great LTM Nikkors and getting M adapters for them. The 85mm f/2 and 50mm f/1.4 are superb, even by today's standards, but finding pristine examples might be next to impossible. They were largely owned by photojournalists who actually used their equipment, sometimes in quite harsh conditions.
