davek57
Some casual reviewers have compared the Canon Powershot A620 to the Canon Powershot G6. Lens differences aside (f2.0 on the G6, f2.8 on the A620), what's your view? -Dave
ronald_smith2
The G6 has RAW file capability and a hot shoe. Other than that, they offer similar performance but you can't beat that extra stop with the G6's lens.. The A620 offers good value for the money. phule
The A620/A610 are certainly closer to the G-series than any previous A-series Canon camera. If you look at the A-5xx series, they're the value-line cameras. I think the comparison is, for the most part, justified. The A620 is a very nice point and shoot. One would hope Canon would extend the replacement for the A620 a little bit closer to the G-series but that may not be very likely.
vrankin
I read the reviews of both extensively back in March of this year when they were within $100 of each other(now the A620 is much lower than the G6, due to markdowns). The A620 has the Digic 2 processor which is faster. It also has a more contrasty and saturated rendition that somewhat overemphasizes reds and blues. You can put the two cameras' outputs side by side using imaging resource.com's comparometer to see the difference. I went with the A620 for its smaller size, faster processing speed, AA batteries and SD cards (which I already had). But now I think I might be happier with the G6 for my mainly landscape and nature work. It also has a hot shoe for flash.
grapegeek
I don't have experience with the G6, but it does have RAW and a hot shoe. I just bought a A620 as my carry everywhere camera and it does a great job doing that. It sure beats carrying around a DSLR for snapshots of the family and that kind of stuff. Oh, and around $200 right now, you can't beat the price...
wilsontsoi
I use both G6 (in office) and Canon A620 (office & travel) and to me, the real difference is the interface. You can go directly to various controls like WB, drive mode, etc. quicker in G6, but the A620's compactness is more suitable as a travel sidekick.
