Canon G9 will not shoot slower than 1" in AV

I have had my G9 for over two years and love most aspects of it. Lately however I have noticed that it will not set a shutter speed longer than 1" in AV mode. I have been through the manual and all the in camera settings and can find nothing that would cause this. At first I thought it was a limitation of RAW which I just started using a month ago but it does it in all JPEG settings also. TV and Manual exposure work fine with no limitations.
Has anyone experienced this? Does my camera need service or is it some obscure setting that I am missing. Thanks for your input.

The G10 does the same thing, which is actually one of its greatest shortcomings, I think, in an otherwise incredibly user-friendly camera. It is a minor grief, though, so I never let it bother me much, but it would have been so much more convenient if it also could go all the way down to 15 seconds in Av-mode. There is absolutely no good reason to make 1 second the longest shutter speed in Av-mode (So, Canon, if you read this, give us a firmware update that lets Av-mode go down to 15 seconds, or give us a the option of selecting it ourselves. Please!).
