Holga lens

Hello there,

After converting one of my holgas in a medium format pinhole camera (you just

have to remove 2 screws to get rid of the whole lens + shutter system). I am

left with the lens! After removing all the shutter system I realized I could cut

out the screwmount and mount it on a body cap for my SLR.

Any advice on how to cut that thing (that plastic is hard!), how much of the

holga base should I keep, and is there a way I can "adjust" it at no cost?

Thank you so much!
00IEQx-32667884.thumb.JPG.3e1c354ac7c938522b8e864409ba4beb.JPG

To keep the lens focussed on infinity the film to flange distance on your canon needs to be equal to what it was on the Holga. This is easy to measure on the holga. And the distance from the bayonet mount to the film on the canon is 44mm. So once you know this, you can calculate how much you need to keep/cut off/or add to the Holga's mount.
-Anupam

Emailed the guy at holgamods and he kindly replied that he wouldn't share his secret of trade. I can understand that... So, I guess I will be measuring the film-flange distance on my other holga when the film is finished.

Now back to find the good tools of trade... Any suggestions?

Sorry to be asking so much, but I really have no clue about these kind of things.

My suggestion: Get a Reversing ring for your SLR. This has a bayonet lens mount on one side and filter threads on the other, mounts on your SLR body and you can screw lenses into it filter-first- should cost maybe $10, usable for other stuff, too. Next, pick up some old used cheap filters at a camera show or other source. Take the glass part out and discard. Attach a tomato paste can, paper towel tube or other similar object to the filter ring, and you can then attached that to the camera via the reversing ring. Simpler than it sounds, keeps from getting duct tape goo on your camera body, etc.

Not sure how good your images will be, probably won't get much of the Holga effect considering that the lens is (barely) meant to cover 120 film, whereas you are most likely trying to cover an APS sized sensor. All the vignetting effect will be lost. Probably better to get a Lensbaby.

I found this list with the film to flange distance of a number of difference SLR makes:

Before Holgamods had released thier Holga bodycaps, I made one out of a body cap and a

holga lens for my Minolta 5D. It didn't have the more extreme effects, but it had the

general blur of a Holga. Never quite got it to work on my own once I went over to Nikon,

so I ended up getting a pre-made one. I've been quite pleased with the results:
