Goodwood Festival of Speed Questions

Howdy!

I will be attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK next month and I

have a few questions:

1-I am shooting a D60 with EF70-200 f4 L, EF17-40 f4 L, and an EF 50mm f1.4. I

presume this is more than enough to cover both static and mobile displays on

the track? Access to trackside appears pretty decent on both the paved and off

road sections.

2-What is the best way to utilize the AI servo mode and is it effective with

targets approaching the camera from straight on or does it work better with

sideways panning shots?

3-What is the best way for me to avoid highlight blowouts? If it is a nice day

the races are run from 0900-1700; but the supercars are running at noon-1300

which of course creates some nasty glare unless there is a bit of cloud cover.

Also, with these being tarted-up super shiney vehicles I really want to avoid

excess glare off the finish where possible while still retaining saturation.

4-Are there any recommended shooting tips for this sort of event? I plan on

shooting mostly Tv mode to avoid camera shake (especially with the long tele)

for action shots and I will use a tripod where possible for statics.

You may need a circular polarizer filter to cut some of the reflections, but with a automobile you have several surfaces that 'shine' in sunshine and the filter will be good for one 'bounce' of light (not every reflection.)

Speeds vary...you can pan on a 180 mph race car. Just experiment on what you have good luck with.<div></div>
