yongbo
I think the home page is optimized for 1024x768, the POW is invisible at load, some people are still using mouse with 2 buttons.<div></div>
yongbo
Or, move the POW above "from the gallery", and all the text to the left.
think27
I also have to scroll down to see it. It could be that it is no longer a major focus... I actually love the great selections of photos on the right. It says more about what the site is than one image so it doesn't really bother me that much. emre
I wonder if the seletion is hand-picked to avoid nudes?
dave_nitsche
Emre, someone posted earlier (one of the higher ups I believe) that they are randomly chosen. From the looks of it there are some parameters set up for the randomness... I also like it a lot and agree with Mary's observation. I've already found some photographers I didn't know about. It's pretty cool.
root
They are randomly chosen from the All/All TRP sort.
yongbo
Actually, I was trying to say, something should fill the white space on the middle/bottom left, no need to be the POW, could be list of the popular forums or presentations. I don't think it's reserved for Ads. Too heavy on the right, and that was my first impression on the home page before get used to it.
gluteal cleft
Being a site primarily about photography, and not about "the almighty buck" (or so was said), you would imagine that the photos of the week would be above the "shopping" link. Or at least I would imagine that. steve
dave_nitsche
Yongbo... I see what you mean now. Have to agree. Steve... The "shopping" link has reviews written by Bob and Philip about cameras. None of the links are redirected to outside venues. It would probably be better if that section was called "Reviews". What is about the almighty buck and not photography there?
bobatkins
Actually some of those REviews (at least some of the ones I wrote) are technically PREviews based on published data rather than reviews based on hands on experience with the cameras. I know some people get upset about such things, so I'm admitting it before some accuses me of deceptive advertising!
yongbo
Hi Steve, for a good web page, the top left must be useful text, can't be a picture changing frequently. The current Shopping section did help visitors to make the right decisions, and it's right on topic. You have to buy a camera first before taking any pictures. gluteal cleft
Dave: Even though the "shoppin" section leads to equipment information, not just links to Amazon (or other "referable" vendors), my first impression every time I see "shopping" as the most prominant section is that it looks like all of the other "Hey, buy a camera HERRE..." web sites. That was why I made the comment. Yongbo, I disagree that every web site MUST have text in the upper left. In fact, I find that the main navigation bar presents information in a more intuitively and easily navigable manner - but it is much less prominant due to size, color, etc.. But hey, to each his own. I'm making it a goal not to gripe about anything else through the weekend. I think I've done a year's worth this week. steve
gungajim
Not much text on Yahoo's upper left home page. Their's is an example of why I'm still not totally thrilled with PN's new home page. Though crisper and airier, it is still text heavy and graphics and color light.
