Minimum no. of ratings for TRP display

To kill a person would not be nice thing to do. However, the death penalty might be the justification for the killer. Everyone has the right to 'knock off' the photo which he or she thought to be over-rated. I have almost never given very low rating to regular good members, who rate the work by the merits. My low rating only goes to those which I thought to be overrated too much with many 7s from his or her rating mates. I could defense every vote of mine strongly. Hanna, you have the right to knock off those which you think don't deserve high rating. Just do it. The only thing I could guess about you, is that you were suspicious that I rated your photos low, right? You love 7s, don't you? Give me your real ID, I would give you tons of 7s right away. or someone tell you to say that? I really suggest you focus more on improving yourself on photography, not trying to get as many 7s as possible.

I only vote once. I cherish every vote I have on each photo. My high rating goes to the work which I think deserve it. My low rating goes to the work which I think don't deserve on the top 42. If not sure, I just choose not to vote. That's it.

As I could remember, the only lady who got 1-1 from me was 'famous' M. C., am I right? I am very sorry that I was not nice to you as a girl and promise to change my scores on yours and other lady's work soon. However, I was so upset then about the fact that either you gave out too many irresponsible high rates on average work or you got too much empty praise with 7s on so-so work from your friends. If my sense was wrong, I would appologize greatly to you.

Personally, I do not think that restricting the inclusion of a photo in the TRP, until a certain number of ratings has been rached, is a good idea. I agree with the unfavorable comments that were given here on this issue and I think that any photo, despite the very first numbers, will in any case meet its destiny, and location, in the TRP. It's a matter of statistics, and the average has to be evaluated on a significant population (if possible).

On rating policy in general, my neat impression is that the issue of "mate-ratings" is nearly becoming witches hunting. Buddy-systems certainly exist on PN (they exist wherever they can), but the real impact of their detrimental impact is still far from being assessed, I guess! It is again a matter of numbers (and logic in thinking...). The first TRP is usually occupied by submissions which has more than 50 high rates. More then 100 high ratings sometimes...How can be possible to think that they are all mates? (I'm using the word mates without knowing its exact meaning. I'm not native english, and I inferred its meaning from the comments...). I certainly agree that this kind of rating may alter the value given to a certain photo, but how much, when everyone is free to rate as he/she wants?

The other face of the medal: people that use to give low ratings as a mission against mate-rating. The really weird (and bad) thing about those guys is that their rating strategy is very far from being more correct than the one they are trying to fight!!! They arbitrarily assume that a given photo is overrated by mates and thus they rate low following their crusade to pop down the rating of the shot they judge as pumped up. Seldom such persons leave a comment on their rating, and when they do, they again invoke their mission against rating exchange. The correct way would be to honestly comment their ratings, focusing on the weakest aspects of the picture, and possibly indicating a way to make it better. The other weird thing is that persons that are supposed to be mate-raters by the various Robin Good(s) here, they actually comment. Often with redundant praise, but in some way they justify what they are doing!! I think that pop-down-ratings are detrimental as well as mate ratings, and both sides are part of a problem. As noticed by many people in many forums here, a non-justified 1/1 (or 2/2 or...) is as unuseful as a full of praise 7/7.

My (long) two cents.

Regards
