vanessa_rogers
If I photograph someone (real people) for use in a magazine and I own the copyright to said image... Can i post this image on my website for promotional purposes without consulting the model? I'm not picking unflattering images in any way... and I have much too many portraits to get in touch with every single model i'd like to post on my site. Any comments? Suggestions? Answers? Thank you in advance.
art_haykin
First off, consult a lawyer skilled in intellectual property rights and related law, especially if you own and publish a magazine. It SEEMS to me that you can use people's recognizable faces for editorial and reportagé purposes without a release or permission, but NOT for any commercial or promotional purposes. Again, get professional counseling.
Spearhead
You may find inexpensive legal help here assuming you are in Florida (which it looks like you are.) digitmstr
Provided your contract with the publications doesn't limit your use of said pictures you may make use of the images as part of your portfolio only. That is to say: if your were to use any of those images as your MAIN page, or showcase it in any way (other than part of your portfolio), the model can ask for permission and/or compensation. So, to be clear: you may have a link to your portfolio and use said images in there. But, you should not use any of the images as a featured attraction in your site. Such as "ABC Photography" and the image right underneath. I am not lawyer but, this is the way I would do it...
